Citroën are claiming that the new c4 has the biggest boot in It's class.

    It's 408 litres

    Isn't the Octavia 565 litres?

Is the Octavia measured with the luggage tray in place

    This isn't on.....

I've never been in an Octavia but when ever some one mentions an Octavia I always tell them that the boot is huge and apparently you can get two Octavia's in the boot of an Octavia. Always gets an interesting reaction in either the "bewildered" or "in awe" extreme!

The C4 boot is pretty big, but it's not even playing the same sport as the Octavia, yet alone in the same ballpark.

Anyhoo - the Octavia boot is old hat now. I'm rocking the Superb dual opening boot/cavern nowadays :pac:

Its not in the "I've broken down again because of the dodgy electrics" class.

So its not a false statement.

I think what Citroën are trying to say is that the Octavia is in a class of its own when it come to big boots :D

    Fair play to 'em!

I actually suffered suffered Jet lag when I climbed in to the boot of my new Superb Combi and got out the driver's door .... about 1700 litres of boot space with the seats down.

unsurprisingly, if you google search 'octavia boot' or 'octavia boot size', boards.ie/motoring is the second respone on each :D

If you want a big boot, buy a transit.

If you want a good looking car however dont buy an octavia :D

    Yawn.

It's funny really, the place is full of comedians on the boot but when two threads were actually looking for advice on them recently there were only 3-4 proper replies with advice, and one was completely derailed about a Punto:rolleyes:

A civic hatchback has 485 litres, that's nearly 20% bigger.

There's a Citroën ad running at the moment that's why I posted.

I prefare the boot in the Altea to the Octavia's

532 litres with lots [LOTS] of rear leg room. With the Altea's rear seats shifted forwards [very little rear leg room, that can increase to 635 litres. You'll search in vain for a broadly similar car that can carry you, the kids and quite this much gear. If you're after the ultimate in capacity, book the kids a babysitter, fold the rear seats down and you've got 1,604 L

Looking into the boot of my brother-in-law's Octavia somehow reminded me of this.

Just a quick update on this:
I emailed Citroën ireland about this and got a call back from a nice chap from Citroën uk.
    Here's what he told me:

The c4 has a bigger boot than the 308

The civic isn't in the same class as the c4. It's in the same class as the forthcoming ds4

The octavia is also in a different class to the c4. On further discussion the boot is too big to be in the same class, although its golf based and costs the same.

They apparently can pick and choose what their classmates are.

    So their claim is justified.

No one has ever mentioned it, but the hugely unsuccessful Mk3 Toledo (a platform mate of the Octavia) had a boot that would easily send Skoda engineers back to the drawing board:

    seat_toledo_boot_10_01_06.jpg

It measured 500 litres to be exact, and that's not even including the space underneath the false floor.

The altea and Toledo are kinda mpvs though.
