Would you fight or do something for freedom?

I was going to have a title like 'fight for Ireland' but I don't think I would. Namely because it'd involve getting into bed with certain undesirables. I would however fight for freedom and a home government.

But let's say in ten years time, Europe has come to ruins and those pesky Argentines fancy a pop at Ireland. Turns out they're an oppressive bunch. What would you do?

I've been flicking through a couple of books on the subject (links provided thanks to posters on a recent thread of mine) and it made me think about what I'd do.

I think i'd do something. At the very least sabotage, vandalism...maybe the odd mail bomb... :P

So, if you woke up tomorrow with Argentine/Russian/US tanks rolling down the street, what would you do in the medium/long term? Fight or just stay put?

I'd seduce their generals and then after taking them to the heights of ecstacy I'd learn all their state secrets during pillow talk and help the resistence that way.

God gave me this body for a reason!

You have to remember Ireland has no value, not even the English can figure out what possessed them to stick around for so long.

    1. Argentina invades
    2. Grab M-16 Carbine
    3. Aim for Headshots
    4. Get shot and die
    5. Wait 10 seconds
    6. Respawn

If the US, Russia etc. did invade, where would we keep the prisoners?

remember its about who you are facing, for instance some of these countries would not be so kind as to use humanitarian methods to control the civilian population, the germans in 1940, when faced by terrorists, had been known to round up a whole village and shoot them all dead[woman and children] in retaliation , i couldent use sabotage knowing this will happen, and i do not believe you could . welcome to the real world

The problem with fighting for freedom is that generally the people who do it arn't intelligent enough to know when they have it. Look at the IRA now. Who is the enemy? More so civilians now

That's a very common sentiment and a valid one. They made the guerillas the enemy of the people by executing the people as punishment for what the guerillas were doing.

However, this in many cases can spur resistance onwards by family of the deceased joining the guerillas. That's why it's no longer a common tactic. And even if it was used, I think it'd make me want to plant a bomb even more.

That's why I decided to not get into the IRA in my OP. They're a minority who have spent to much time listening to old men in pubs.

I wouldn't fight for the notion of a nation. I would however, fight for a government of my own people and civil rights.

Look at Libya right now. An almost entirely civilian uprising. In the space of a few months, teachers, doctors, lawyers, students, who have never even held a gun before, are launching missiles and continuing on the offensive.

I don't think Í'd be any good at it. Wouldn't have the strength to keep my mouth shut during torture. Maybe if a family member or close friend had been killed by the oppressor I'd be hardened by it but otherwise no.

That's the story but you really can't believe a word powers with vested interests are saying

In the case of Libya I personally hope Gadaffi isn't killed but goes to Geneva and gets life in prison. Judging by his taste in fashion the prison uniform will be the biggest punishment.

Given the level of alertness of the US/UK security/presidential teams right now, I wonder just how many red flashing lights went off in CIA and MI5 headquarters at the moment you posted that?

    Expect callers!

The title of this thread reminds me of the song from Team America ''What would you do?..." (sung in a southern accent)

I might put an X on a petition or something, or draw an angry face in chalk on the footpath. Or maybe go into my neighbour's back garden and kick over a pot plant. You'd have a hard time getting me that riled up though.
