In the past week or so, I have been sweating profuse amounts of salt, its like I have been for a dip in the atlantic I can taste it very quickly in my mouth. Most noticeably in the gym on tuesday (havent been for ages) when I did an hour on a stiff resistance and the white salty spots were popping up on the shorts all the time (now I did have too many beamishes on monday night !). I have generally been drinking more water recently as I noticed I had drenched my back pack and helmet straps in salty stains when I extended my home commute to a 2 hour ride and had no food or water a couple of weeks ago. I have never used any of the magic potions in my drinks, the furthest I got was 1 sportif where I mixed up a bit or orange, water and half a teaspoon of salt, so perhaps its time to get serious about that ?

Any theories why the recent change, or have I just noticed it more recently, perhaps before it was washed away a bit with rain, perhaps I had more layers of clothes to make it less noticeable. Note, not asking for medical advice !!! just some random chitchat on anybody elses experiences;) I am a shed load fitter, faster and lighter than I was a year ago when I joined the mamils for real so does that make a difference ?

i noticed i sweat more in the gym than out on the road. someone told me sweating was a good thing! means your body is working well. on the bike the wind helps. i try and layer my clothes so i can remove or unzip as required. using arm warmers help as i can raise them or lower them as required. i try to go out feeling a slight chill. as i begin to work and warm up it gets ok. soon i am unzipping etc. zipping up on the descents and in those wonderful block headwinds. if your wearing a knapsack, you are going to sweat on the back. no way around it!

Are you / have you started drinking energy drinks? I used to get that when I was re-hydrating with Gatorade: my cycling gear would be caked in white powder. Switched back to water now the recession is upon us, and it doesn't happen anymore...

    Wow that's interesting!
I had some lucozade sport at football on sunday, ended up with a layer of salt all over me! iiiinteresting!

no, just more water. This particular week I have been eating ham&cheese sambos every day, when normal fair might be tuna, salmon or beetroot. perhaps over the past few weeks, more beamish than wine. Probably been having more choc biscuits than normal. Also more nuts than normal in the past 2 weeks. The list goes on... Are you just thinking its just a change in diet/drink thing ? Thinking about it, I did have a bottle of lime lucozade sport at the gym, cant have come out that fast though.

I don't want to give medical advice but a strange taste in your mouth, sweating, change in urination habits etc are diabetic risk symptoms. If you are concerned see your gp. It's probably just the hotter weather but just to be safe.

Jesus Christ, this is why you shouldn't bother looking for advice on the internet. Now you're bloody diabetic.

You've increased you exercise recently and its hotter so you are sweating more hence the salt.

The weather the last while has been very humid. You wil sweat a lot more and hence the salt. Before, during and after a workout drink Dioralyte solution see if it helps.
If the salty taste doesnt go after a short period get thee to a doctor just to be safe.

It is normal to sweat out salt; I have seen guys caked in it. It is important to replace the salt, so include a bit in your drinks. Energy drinks already include it (isotonic = 0.9% salt.) It is rare but you can actually die from drinking too much unsalted water while exercising (water intoxication.)

And luckily as medical care is so cheap here you have no need to google your ailments

Do you look like this after a cycle?
