If you can't walk to the hospital, you can't be treated

Unless you can walk to the hospital and remember to bring photo ID you won't be treated. All because of Lizzy Windsor's junket. I pity the sick and infirm Irish civilians who will suffer because of it.

I'm not exaggerating at all. I can't imagine people would be happy making a six hour return trip from Cork to Dublin to get treated either, although they wouldn't get appointments anyway.

    Its about this.
SOME patients have been forced to cancel appointments at a Cork city hospital because of the tight security surrounding the Queen’s visit next week.

Staff at the Mercy University Hospital (MUH) yesterday began contacting people who are due to attend out-patient appointments next Friday, May 20 — the day the Queen arrives in the city — to outline the strict arrangements which will be in place in the area.

They said cars will be banned from the area and that people with appointments will have to walk to the hospital.

Also, people will have to present photo ID to gain access to the hospital.

One young mother from the city’s northside confirmed last night that the security arrangements had forced her to cancel an appointment her three-year-old son had with an eye specialist. He has waited for the appointment for a year and it has been rescheduled for July.

Sinn Féin TD Jonathan O’Brien said he has no doubt that many other people are in a similar situation.

"There will be many patients who, because of their age, state of health, or location, are not able to walk to the hospital. It is absolutely scandalous that sick and elderly people should be treated in this way," he said.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the hospital said that it would be providing a normal service for the duration of the Queen’s visit, but he was unavailable for comment last night.

Of course, while it is not ideal, it wouldn't be necessary if there weren't idiots out there who want to kill her.

This isn't quite the Queen's fault, it's the fault of a small rabble of killers who very few people support, and who have an obsession with killing the Queen and Northern Irish policemen, and who live in the past most of the time

I suppose they shouldn't have invited Obama either?

The country will benefit from tourism arising from both visits, at the time and subsequently.

Many statespersons visit these shores, not all require the amount of security that the Queen unfortunately has to have because of dissidents. Obama's a US presiden so is at risk anyway because of the American track record at world politics. At least they're both coming around he same time...

Indeed because this is going to make the headlines around the F***KIN WORLD

    "US president visits country"

    "british queen also visits country"

both visits are international non events. Sky and the Beeb will note it only because its the first time that english royalty has showed its face over here since they were ran out like redshanks.

I'm sure if there was a medical emergency that something could be arranged.
    Try not to fret.

I am due to give birth any time, I have to attend the hospital a lot as it is a very high risk pregnancy, it is a major inconvenience to say the least for me, as well as being stressful when I do not need it.

Could people stop posting "Liz Windsor" or variants thereof? We get the point.

I'm sure the authorities will leave a heavily pregnant woman with various medical issues through on the day. Try not to worry. Just imagine if you lived in the far reaches of West Cork where you were 2 hours + away from any hospital! You'll be fine.

Di I miss a memo or Is there some competition going on in AH about who can crowbar that Queen's visit into any topic whatsoever?

Its an absolute joke. Republicans wouldn't dream of killing her - the lagan would run red from Catholic blood if they did.

I reckon the t are leading thhe British intelligence agencies are pulling the strings for the security job as the Irish govt are too feared of messing things up. As they couldn't give a toss about the public response they might as well leave absolutely nothing to chance.

Why do so many people on hear ask stupid questions, its shocking the amount of adults who don't know basic things that a five year old would know. if you are sick and in many cases when people are sick they are unable to walk so an ambulance would be needed to take them to hospital even a five year old knows that. life is life when ur sick u could get more sick and die. The most important thing is life.

I can understand Obama's visit raising tourism because the US TV and papers will show the countryside etc, iof they show the visit at all but how will the Queen of England's visit raise tourism- all people will see is the Capital City shutting down because the Authorities are so uncomfortable with her visit. As for tourists coming over "at the time" I doubt they'll get to see the Queen or much of Dublin if the scale of road closures is as big as is being mentioned.

It'll be well covered by the media in the UK too (I live over here at the moment) and a lot of people are going on breaks a little closer to home since the recession. The exposure on TV, showing Ireland might help get some English tourists to spend some money in Ireland.
