    Hi,

I've been looking for a car for myself for a couple of weeks. Finally time to upgrade the old faithful Yaris. Would really appreciate any advice or words of wisdom. I have never really bought a car before.

My budget €6,000 - 8,000 for the car.

And since I'm only 23 the higher insurance band cars are pretty much off the table.

I have been looking at BMW 3 series mostly. I have been on a few test drives and the best one's I have come across are these:

2003 BMW 318 ci auto with 80,000 miles for €6,500

    2003 BMW 318i with 80,000 miles for €5,500

    2003 BMW 316i with 50,000 miles for €6,000
    (Can't find link).

Also looking at an Audi TT, a bit more pricey and insurance is nearly double the 3 series, but alot more fun to drive and a lot less practical.

2003 Audi TT 1.8 quattro with 54,000 miles for €8,500

Anyone have any experience buying cars of this vintage?

I had planned on bringing a mechanic to have a look at any car I am considering buying, at a cost of about €100 per car. What do you think? Would this avoid headaches in the future or is it a waste of time and cash?
