Advice Needed.....

    So here goes, Ive been looking for a car for weeks, and finally found a Peugout 308 in Dublin that is exactly what Ive been looking for.....
    Anyway, Im based down the country so I called them last week and arranged to call to see the car on Saturday. Saw it, checked it out, perfect. Arranged for a mechanic to call to the garage yesterday to check it out, he said its grand, happy out.
    SO, when I ring the guy in the garage, its the owner ive been dealing with, he says that he has someone else interested in it, they called in late on Monday, and they are willing to pay more. Fine, I know this could be the usual talk. So I said to him, I wanted to buy the car, we had agreed a price etc. he said I would have to call in and fill out forms and give him a deposit. I said Id call in Friday as im in Dublin for meetings, he said fine, but he has told the other interested party that its now up to which ever one of us comes in first! I asked could I pay the deposit over the phone or could I get someone to call in that evening and fill out the forms for me, he said no! He said to call him back on Friday and see if the car is still there..................

    Now I am €100 out of pocket for the mechanic and this guy has just had his car checked for free!

    I suppose my question is, is he allowed to do this? Im so annoyed as
