Passat Engine Rattle

    Hey guys,

I have a 02 Passat 1.6. A little while back I noticed a rattle in the engine, on closer inspection it appears that its not internal but just two pieces of alumnium vibrating off each other. (see pics attached).

To be honest Im not sure what the purpose of them even is. The on marked A in the pic is like a half cylinder, and it is surrounding some sort of cylindrical component, and vibrating of it

As well of this, the part marked B is like a loose piece of alminium which also doesnt seem to have any noticeable purpose. This seems to be a little warped and torn at the edges, but from what I dont know.

Can anyone shed some light on it? I dont want to whip it out and hope for the best, does this happen with Passats?

    Thanks in advance!

It's a heatshield. You could just chuck it, but personally I wouldn't. Can you find a better way of attaching it, like fitting wide washers under each of it's retaining screws??

Is that the bit marked A? Maybe, but its a bit tight there, would I need to dismantle too much to get in at it? It doesnt seem to be attached at all at the top, only at the bottom, the bit of a gap atthe top is where the vibration in occurring

As for the bit marked B, it just seems to be a random piece of soft aluminium comig out of nowhere, i dunno what its supposed to be joined to in the first place!
