Hi there,

Given you your own thread rather than bumping an old thread of someone else.

I have to reiterate that that we cannot give legal advice on this forum.

Eh I really don't think so.

Yes it is. If it's a slanderous remark made to a third party that being someone other than the person who made the remark and the person to whom the remark is referring to. Libel is written form so chat may not be substantial enough for libel but it's definitely slander if someone is saying you're a whore and giving out your number. I'd definitely look into it.

dont think you have much hope

Just to throw something out there, one can't usually sue for slander unless one has suffered actual damages of some form. However there is an exception where a lady's virtue is called into question, in which case slander is actionable per se (i.e. without demonstrating damages having been suffered)

It's great the random stuff you remember from college days...

It's not a criminal matter unless what the other person is at veers into harassment. Do you really want to take legal action here? Or just tell the culprit not to be a dick.

I wouldnt even bother looking into the legal sides of things.
Only in serious cases would something ever come about (ie, accusations of being a rapist or messing with children etc. the serious ones!) but being called a whore? its something that tons of people get called a day. All you can do is give who ever a piece of your mind.

Of course, if you were a person of notoriety. Different story  ie, Mary harney suing a radio DJ for being called an alcoholic. Law is different to everyone.

i dont think there be much to go on,unless you have physical transcript proof that somebody said that with the number given out in the same chat,i dont think it would be looked into,it be hard to prove who was sitting behind the computer at the time, example i could had left my fb open while i went off to do something whilst a friend could had typed that in.

It's not libel if it's true ;)

That was helpful, that's one of the fundamental principles of defamation law. I request that the infraction be retracted, thank you.

As per the fundamental rule of Boards, if you have an issue with a moderator then you PM them, dragging the thread off-topic arguing with moderator action is deemed off-topic and unhelpful to the OP and off-topic and unhelpful posting can earn you a ban from this forum.

If you haven't already done so, please take the time to read the forum rules in the charter.

Many thanks.

What a load of nonsense, if you don't like something we say you are allowed condemn us in public yet we can only defend ourselves in private? That is ridiculous and certainly not in keeping with the morality of the democratic society in which we live.

P.S. It was only taken off-topic by your embolded self-righteous messages, my original one was most definitely on topic and it was, in fact, helpful. It's a marvelous system that you operate where when someone asks for advise, the advise they are given is censored. Jesus Christ, get a grip and take a look at yourselves, you're moderators on an internet forum, not the individual referenced earlier in this sentence. Moderator on the internet, what are the requirements? Being dull as **** and perennially self-righteous look like the criteria to me. **** me, you lot must be a sad bunch.

All the best,

LUPz

Can you prove they did? Thats what it comes down to if youre taking a case. But if you are, you need proper legal advice.
