You have to in to your local tax office next month and fill out the form there. Whenever I've bought a new (second hand) car I have done it this way.

Alternatively you can pick it up in your local Garda station and do it at home.

You dont need to do anything except wait for the post. I bought a van two weeks ago, the tax was up end of April and the tax renewal form arrived in the letterbox today.

In my expereince no. Wait to get the log book then pop into the office and fill out the tax form manually. Job done.

This is what I've done last 3 times I bought a car. Never got a tax renewal form in the post.

The first one listed after you click on Motor Tax forms, it's aptly named ;)

FORM RF100A - MOTOR TAX RENEWAL
This form can be used to renew the motor tax on your vehicle if, for any reason, the form issued to you in the post is unavailable. The form must be used if you wish to pay arrears in a motor tax office or declare a period of non-use of a vehicle. Detailed instructions on completing and submitting the form are contained in the accompanying notes.
