It means "I'm too lazy to describe everything that's wrong with this car" ;)
Also look for "first to see will buy" :D

It means your life may never be complete if you don't go see it.

Well of course it's essential to view a car before you buy it. It's not like he was expecting people to give their card numbers over the phone.

I hate these gimmicky Micky mouse lines people use in their adds. They will say anything to shift their bucket!

Looks a nice motor, pity there's no interior photos when they went to the trouble of taking nice exterior. If I was going to purchase I'd look for them to take interior photos to see if there's a badly fitted phone kit or anything else that might put you off. Also would check there's not just 1 set of keys with it. You should ideally check it out with a HPI check prior to travelling all the way to Liverpool to look at it unless you are looking at a number of cars in the same journey.

Yes just make sure he gets the whole V5 form either by telling the dealer the car is for export or by registering the car to himself and waiting for him to get the form (this though will add an extra owner). Not having the full V5 will cause months of hassle trying to get the form sent from the DVLA and you won't be able to VRT it.

Thats good if you can save some money so. How much is Vrt? The new Vrt system is a pain just so you know. It took them 2weeks to give me a reg and the whole process took 6weeks and lots of paper work

I did this recently (car from UK)

    1. V5 as already mentioned.

    2. Insurance to drive it - you're sorted as your brother is doing this and the seller is touting 7 day insurance (basically he'll give your brother a number to ring, they give a quote with 7 days insurance for free, you don't pay the premium on quote, its free).

    3. Tax - can't be insured unless taxed, can't be taxed unless its insured - I had a mare with this recently. Car was untaxed and I couldn't get a UK company to cover me to drive it home (non UK resident), so couldn't get it taxed in the UK. Ultimately I got an Irish company to cover me for a few days (took a bit of effort) and the dealer sorted the tax on his own insurance, when I had proved to him I was insured (letter from insurer). All sounds v complicated - only arises if the car is not currently taxed.

    4. You need to book it into an NCT centre that does VRT as you know (they don't all do VRT). For your car they will probably give you the assessment there and then which is binding. It can be appealled but you have to pay it in full first. You'll have 30 days to complete the process (i.e. pay having presented it). I got an appointment in Dublin about 3 days out from ringing to make one.

    5. Don't know why it took 6 weeks to sort the previous poster. Car I bought had to be referred to revenue as opposed to being given an assessment there and then. I bought it Saturday, VRT appointment Tuesday morning, telephone call with the bad news on Wednesday afternoon, paid Friday morning and plated it that afternoon. Taxed it online the next day. I got the cert of vehicle ownership yesterday in the post (about three weeks out)

vtsboy - run the car through the online calculator available via this site (I don't have a direct link) www.vrt.ie for an estimate. It doesn't take account of extras. My actual VRT was a few quid cheaper than this would have indicated.

you will most certainly die a sorry and painful death or else get run down by a truck in the coming week if you dont look at it

    thats what it means...

I'd say they're trying to imply that of cars of that model/year its in great condition. This may or may not be true !

The one that would worry me is '' will fly through the NCT '' :(

"The NCT tester was amazed at its condition"

    or

"It flew through the NCT test"

    I love those lines

    .

may be a stupid question, when do they give you a Reg and do you get the plates yourself?

thanks for the info btw this is so helpfull

    No problem.

You get the reg when you pay the VRT. They give you a receipt which will have your newly assigned reg number on it.

You get the plates yourself - any motor factors/dealer type will sort you out. They will probably want proof you own the car, which for you will be the receipt from the VRT/NCT people (which will have your new reg on it). I literally plated mine the same day I paid the VRT, and 24 hours later I was able to tax it online.

About 20 days later I got my cert of vehicle ownership in the post.

When you present for VRT assessment they will talk you through the payment process. Basically up to around 1500 euros they can take a laser card, over that requires bank draft or postal order. For the car you're looking at I'd say you'll be given the assessment there and then (likely not refer to revenue in other words). When the assessment is done they give you a document to prove you have presented it for assessment, and you have 30 days from date of import to pay the money due (check the revenue website for the docs you need for the assessment- from memory, V5, proof of date of import if your assessment is more than 7 days from date of purchase, purchase invoice, something official with your address on it so a utility bill or something, your PPS number and something proving that this is your PPS number, photo ID - driving license or passport).

Either pay there and then or come back with payment, and you get your reg number immediately on payment.

Just do all the checks, ran this car by a garage owner who imports a lot of diesel focuss, he has looked at a lot of cheaper 08s and not bought as there were stories attached to all of them.

Clocked, crashed, stolen, high heal marks in the roof lining.

    You name it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Flood damage, stolen recovered, fire damaged, accident damaged, clocked, cloned, who knows.

Just do all the necessary checks before viewing and make sure your man knows what hes looking at/for
