    Hi Guys

I'm thinking of possibly starting a new job in the beacon hospital, sandyford in a few weeks time. Just trying to decide where i should live ? Does anyone have any experience of living northside and commuting to Sandyford ? I think i'd prefer living somewhere around drumcondra.

If i do decide to find somewhere closer to the hospital what area would you recommend ? Thanks guys.

Debatable whether this thread is better suited here or Dublin forum. 'Tis just a local knowledge thing, like. Anyway...

    From Drumcondra you could get:
    - 11 bus to Ranelagh for Green Luas to Kilmacud or Stillorgan. Few mins walk from there. About 50 minutes.
    - 11 bus all the way to Beacon. Slow through southside outer suburbs at peak times. Probably 70 minutes.
    - 16/a to Camden St. and Luas. About 50 mins.
    - Walk to Dublin Bikes stand at Mater or Mountjoy Sq. Cycle to Grantham St. or Charlemont and get Luas. Depends on walk but say 15 minute cycle and 20 mins on Luas.

Other options too but they're similar.

I commuted from Santry to Sandyford for four years, only recently giving it up and moving to Balally. The city centre can be very unpredictable to cross - some days it'll take a few minutes, other days it'll be half an hour. I wouldn't do it if I was you (although using a Dublin Bike is a good alternative). Anywhere on the Green Luas line or anywhere in the south city centre would be handy. Not having to rely on Dublin Bus is a plus as is having Luas till 12.30.

Well the good news is that from June (Hopefully) the belatedly retained 11 should be operating up to it's new permanent Sandyford terminus adjacent to the Beacon.

It should have a 15 min peak and a 30 min off-peak service level which might alleviate your commute issue.

City Centre Traffic level is now far less of an issue than heretofore particularly during peaks, with most of the delays now down to extended dwell time at Bus Stops and widespread illegal parking by Taxidrivers.
