    Hi Girls,

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.....

I will be 35 in July and highlighting my hair for years (blonde).....

Recently I have been noticing grey hairs and they seem to be doubling over night......... My highlights don't cover them up...

Any suggestions on appropriate hair colour from here on in??? My mother said it is because I am highlighting my hair for soooo long..... too late now :o

    Your mother's wrong :)

35 is the statistically average age for caucasian people to start greying. :)

    Thanks Ickle magoo!!!!! :D

I appreciate the comment about not worrying about it but I prefer not to be grey.......;)

I've been going grey since I was 16, naturally very dark, and have dyed my hair nearly every color there is, the only one that will disguise greys is blonde. If you go brunette you'll get awful regrowth at the roots, red and you'll get the same with the added benefit of having the color fade extremely quickly, and dark with highlights you run the risk of missing out grey areas. Your only hope is blonde I'm afraid, unless your brave enough to go color free!

32 and getting grey temples. Some of the lads I was in College are very grey now, and I have one mate who's in his mid to late twenties in a huge state oof greyness.

    thanks a million shinikins........ xx

I did ask my hairdresser about going red and she said it will fade very quickly alright..... The last time I got the blonde highlights done, the greys still showed up. I wonder should I go for an all-over colour instead????

Isn't silver hair all the rage atm? I think you should keep highlighting your hair, and if you get some silver streaks that would look amazing and unique. :)

If you're not happy though, an all over blonde colour might be a better option for you. Cheaper to touch up the roots too but it's harder on your hair from my experience.

I'm only 24 and just starting to go grey, both my brothers have been greying since 17 and my sister since about 21! You're lucky!

My 38 oh is completely white, his 12 yr old nephew has started going grey. Doesn't bother me.
Now my OWN greys do, have to put in permanent dye every 6 or so weeks :(

thanks a million to everyone for their replies!!!:)

Well just to let you know I got an all over colour done with 5 highlights through the top on saturday!!!

The hairdresser (not my usual but the same salon) recommended this new natural hair colour which is amonia free!! So I thought great..... this will be better for my hair...:)

So...there I am sitting down having this colour (blonde) applied and my hair line starts to sting...quite badly...so I told the hairdresser and she wiped the colour from my hairline and I was all red but at least the stinging had stopped  My scalp was not stinging at all and she said that 'the hairline is very sensitive'

Now when all was finished I looked in the mirror and thought my hair looks quote orangey  but thought a it is probably only the lights! My hairline was stil red by the way and was until yesterday!!!!

I have asked some friends/family members for their opinions on my hair colour and most have said that the lengths of my hair (which is long) are a different colour to the top of my hair, as in the lengths are dark blonde & top is gold(or I think orange) which is true!!!! the colour looks totally different to what I expected and now my eyebrows stand out like a sore thumb :(...... Do you think the colour was on too long or what should I do???????

She should have done a patch test on you as it was a new colour. Go back and ask to get your hair fixed by someone else in the hairdressers (don't pay!)

    Thanks LilMissCiara:)

Would you believe half way through the colour she asked me if I ever had an all over colour before (normally have highlights) and I said years ago I used to do home colours but never a salon colour and she said 'well normally we should do a patch test but you should be ok' :(

Oh noooooooooo!!!!!!:eek: I can't believe she said that, she must have been a rookie. Go back, speak to the manager and make sure you have an experienced stylist fix it!

see the problem was u can never get an all over colour that lifts up as bright as ur highlights.. unless you use an on scalp bleach.. they should have given you masking with a semi permanent in between the packets of highlights to disguse the grey. if you want an all over colour thats really blonde you would have to prelighten your hair unless its already very light. stupid ''hairdresser'' should have known that.. grrrr it annoys me so much when so called hairdressers forget the very basics of training!

You should just keep with the highlights, you'll never get the same result with an all over colour. It's just the maintainence that's the killer every four weeks!

    Hi Everyone!!!

Just to update ye..... I did go back to salon and got low lights through full head hair which improved the appearance of the yellow/brassy hair........ I still wasn't 100% happy with it so I decided to be brave and bit the bullet and I got an all over copper semi-permanent colour  and I absolutely love it!!!!!!:D I don't think I will ever go back to blonde now and family and friends have been saying never to go back blonde either as copper suits much better!!! I know the maintenance will be tough...every 4-5 wks but I am hoping every time I get it re-done it might last a bit loner each time...figers crossed!!!;)

Thank you all sooooo much for your replies, input, advice and comments on this topic........xxx

It might be worth looking at the semi-permanents - you may be able to find something very close to the colour. I found once the hairdresser had dealt with the highlights and evened things out, I could maintain my colour (a dark blonde) with a semi. I know semis aren't great at covering grey but the hairdresser every 4 weeks is appalling money, if the semi gives you an extra 2 or 3 weeks it might be worth it?
