I actually much prefer Sanwa buttons, far more sensitive than the Seimetsu's.

    Boo! Hiss! :)

What you said though sums up why I prefer Seimitsu to Sanwa. In basic gaming terms, for fudging oafs like myself who can't play games at all, over sensitive buttons are a nightmare. From a SHMUP angle though, it can make all the difference between dropping the laser for an alt shot and losing your multiplier and getting a world record Ketsui score (well, one that shows up ondafly anyway :D).

Therefore, by the power invested in me by my dog, the influenza I'm currently housing and the belt of scotch I had before bed last night, I declare Sanwa to be inferior to Seimitsu (for my personal choice of course).

    Nice. They're about 2k a kit yes?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

Yeah, ¥198,000. Couple of lads on AO have pre-ordered full kits. I'll just wait until July to play it. :)

Imagine spending ¥198,000 on a Cave kit and you do this to it:

Yeah, we were talking about it here, it's pretty impressive stuff, visuals sometimes make the gameplay hard to follow but it is lovely.

I've only really just discovered them recently. Of course I've been listening to them for years without knowing it in games etc but only recently have I actively looked for their stuff.

They're pretty damn good all right.

    Good work SteveSI. :)

Do yourself a massive favour though and check out the Darius Burst Live at O-East CD/DVD pack, it's absolutely mind-blowing.

Zuntata are just awesome anyway, but it's their work on the Darius series that stands out for me. Nice to see someone else enjoying the majesty of Darius. :D

I had one of those moments just a while ago, where you realise it was a dream not real life ****e dream as well. I bought a copy of Darius and Gradius and started to play them. Thought Gradius was crap and too easy and was wondering to myself what that retrogamer lad was on about.
That's a sad state of affairs there now. My defends is I fell asleep looking at Saturn games on eBay, so must of came across copies of Darius.

Have to say the level designs in my Gradius where uber bland. Looked like the inside of a generic space ship all grey metal along top and bottom. That was all. I was able to fly in a straight line in every level.

Sounds like an evening in the Pyongy household :D:D:D

Sorry, that was a bad one. I'll give myself an hours ban.

Interesting to read his first impressions of it.
First impressions after ten or so credits.

Firstly, it looks horrific The bubblegum style and ridiculously vibrant colour pallet are really gaudy. The soundtrack is equally sickly. A very odd experience in what is otherwise DOJ2. It would probably work better in high res. The inevitable port might make more sense.

Gameplay wise, it's one of Cave's hardest for sure. Shot and Laser modes seem a similar challenge to DOJ so far. Expert ramps things up to somewhere around Ultra difficulty. I really can't see there being a second loop. Expert is it.

The bullet patterns are very reminiscent of the Ketsui/DOJ era, which I love. The patterns are only half the story where difficulty is concerned however, hitboxes seem bigger than anything Cave have done. You don't get away with half as much. Autobomb seems like a must for now.

I'm liking the A ship overall. B seems handy for killing popcorn enemies quickly. C seems too slow. I think A-Laser will be my game,

Chaining isn't very strict. Not entirely sure how to score well though. I've only managed half a billion so far and haven't seen stage four yet (other than to confirm that Ustream freeze was a one off). I need to get my hyper meter up quicker to start milking the crazy sections for gold, I know that much. I don't think my rank has been over 3 yet either!

Overall, it's not love at first sight but it very rarely is. I need to know where the scoring kick is. One thing that's clear, though, Cave have aimed this one firmly at the hardcore, the bubblegum chewing hardcore.

Not love at first sight? Jeebus for the price I would have hoped it would be.

P.S. Commiserations again about the result.

God damn cave PCBs, the one let down I always find about them is that they're so small!

Just pre-ordered Akai Katana from Shopto. They are giving away a free Akai Katana t-shirt if you pre-order the game there.

Well worth it considering the price official Cave t-shirts go for these days.

Put off pre-ordering the PAL release for ages as I'm going to get the LE NTSC-J edition, but feck it it's worth it for the t-shirt to buy the PAL release too. :)

Saw that earlier, hope it's better than the abomination of a shirt I got with one of the SF4 revisions from ShopTo :pac:

Hmm, my months-old Amazon pre-order is probably cheaper.

    But Shopto has a t-shirt.

Will laziness prevail over a potentially over/undersized t-shirt?
