    Hey,
Taking the family to Canaries on Thurs, and looking for any good apps for going abroad.

I have the Dublin Airport one (flight times).
Angry Birds, keeps my wife quiet :P

Also, any do's and don'ts when roaming, don't want to incur any crazy charges, eg; was told that sending a photo to Facebook or maybe another phone could cost 5euro

    Thanks,

    Kev.

    Download a few books?

If you use Google maps or GPS there may be data costs.
Try to find a way to get them to work offline, google it if you think you'll need it.

Good GPS software (TomTom/Navigon are v. good)
Google Places/Qype/Around Me are good at finding restaurants and bars close by, some will have reviews
Music, books (kindle or ibooks), mag subs (economist is great if you are interested in it)
Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, Tiny Wings, Peggle are all great games
Eurosport app to keep up to date :)
Google Translate if you don't speak the lingo, if you have no 3G connection then a dictionary or phrase book

Get a roaming data add on before you leave or you will get hammered with data costs, otherwise turn off mobile roaming and stick to the hotel and cafe wi-fi connections.

    Hi there
Can I ask a roaming question about the iphone. I have turned off data roaming. So does this mean now I will not be charged data charges or roaming charges if I just stick to free wifi abroad?
    Thanks
    C

That would be a fairly low quality photo, unless your with three, meteor or on a roaming plan you should expect to pay €5 per no text only web page you load and about €40 per video you watch on sites like youtube. Also make sure you turn off data, a friend went abroad and was charged €20 per hour their apps were allowed access the interent. I don't think they paid in the end though.

Yes, I think some apps can still access the internet if you request it, e.g. safari.
AFAIK turning off data only stops the apps accessing data on their own so be careful of that.

IF and only IF, you are on the original 2 gig data tariff with vodafone, you should have free data roaming. I do.

Yeah, it's called 3Like Home. You'll get a full list on their site.
