Has any-one actually got a job going???

I know this is a little desperate but I need a job! I am 22 and willing to work anywhere doing almost anything as long as I have money coming in every week that I can support myself any maybe put away a few euro's. It doesn't have to be in Ireland even. There is surely some-one out there in boards land that is actually doing well that needs another pair of hands.....I hope

The tough part is I have no qualifications.

I left school at 16 as I got a great number just laboring but payed very well and then just floated between Barwork, Oddjobs, Casino's(poker dealer) and laboring when that finished up but now I can't get anything even near full time. Couldn't afford insurance (€2500) this year so had to even sell my car. Things are very bad lol.

Why don't you get some sort of qualifications then? You're 22, it's not too late to start. My cousin only started college when he was 24, he's now 30 and doing very well for himself. Thing outside the box, I think times like these are the best times to start off businesses.

Emigration should be the LAST resort, in my opinion.

Go volunteer in Africa or somewhere for a year.

Probably won't cost you anything but you will learn some great life lessons.

I don't have a full liscense and the fact I am 22 and male doesn't help. I had a fairly big engined car also tho. Only claim was a car that was stolen a year ago.

If I was jobless and couldn't find work after actually trying then emigration would absolutely be the next step. I'd rather live my life making decent money and earning a decent living instead of becoming depressed and living just to pick up the dole every week. I used to go working in Ballybrit for the Galway Races every year. Make a packet and I'd kip in a hostel.
And one year I'd finish at the track and go do hotel night porter. Must have done well over 100 hours that week

You could do this and you could do the Tall Ships Festival in Waterford too!

All you need is Bus Eireann there, shoes, pants and a few shirts and you're set to work for the week. They'll all have tents or pubs and hotels want good staff too

Yeah that's the only problem with emigrating IMO. You would need around €2k to get to Canada and set up. €1k for visa + flights and €1k for living over there when you get there. You will find work when you get out there though no doubt about that, even if you have to live off odd jobs on craigslist for a few weeks at least you are getting some money in.

I did say it should be the LAST resort. If you have checked every corner and crevice of the country and realise that there is absolutely no opportunity for you whatsoever, even if you wanted to set up some sort of business and you were sure that it was guaranteed on failing. If you have investigated it all, down to the very last mathematical dot, and realised that there's no hope - then you should leave. Not until then.

I was in Canada for almost 2 months. just home a month. Not working just sorting out work for when I get my VISA sorted. I have work out there and have a Canadian liscence and a bank account with $600CAD in it but I am broke outside of that.

Flights with Canadian affairs are nearly alway about 300-350 € fyi

Starting a business with no money in a bad economy? I'd rather emigrate. Too much risk involved with starting a business even if you get a loan from the banks which you more than likely wouldn't. Emigrating isn't a bad thing - if you're country can't cater for you then go somewhere else that will. It makes sense. Sitting around on your arse in Ireland because you're Irish is a joke - as far as I'm concerned I owe this country zilch given what has happened.

I dunno about you but i'd rather be making a decent living somewhere else than getting paid minimum wage here or paying a sh1tload of tax to a bankrupt state over here.

I think Ireland is a great country but when it comes to getting a decent job things are fairly miserable at the moment. Until I have a few years experience there is nothing for me here, and even then it won't pay as much and lack in several other aspects to a job i'd get elsehwere

Yep one way buddy but still they are almost always the cheapest option(you have to Ryanair yourself to England first tho)

Sorry to burst your bubble but Canada is not a walk in the park. There is this bizarre perception out there that it's easy to find a job here. It's not. Unemployment is at 8%. Canadians are struggling to find work and if you have no transferable qualifications you'll find it tough as hell. I know of quite a few Irish who've gone back home because they couldn't find work here. Do your research first.

If you care to read all the posts I also said that if I did in fact get a steady job I would stay. I would have to be working at least a 40hour week for that to happen tho.

Read all my posts. I said I spent 2 months out there at the start of the year organising work. I was in 3 provinces. Did a llot of research for the record and have full time work set up for when/if I can get out there. I never said its easy to relocate to Canada at all. Its quite the opposite. And I agree about the amount of Irish gone home. In Toronto, 1/3rd of all people living in shelters are Irish atm because people just land out and expect everything to fall into place for them.

Nope. I have used up the 2 years allowed. If I was to return to school I would lose my entitlements. I just cannot afford that

the best thing to do if you're going back to Canada imo is to stay out of major cities like Toronto Halifax or Vancouver and look at suburban cities,thats where a lot of the work is.

In my opinion, the eligibility for EU (i.e., non-Irish) citizens to have their fees paid should be scrapped. The government should priorities in upskilling it's own citizens first - people like the OP.

I have 2 places that I can go. Fort McMurray or Saskatoon. Both out West and remote and cold and so on but I flew out there as a big company was having 3 job fairs on in a week. They offered me a job like. There is actually a share of work in North Toronto atm tho but even so people are better off staying away from there and going west.

well even suburban Ontario isn't too bad,that's where alot of contractors are since you were saying you were a labourer,i have a friend who works a lot with social programs.job placements and stuff like that in Kitchener/Waterloo who could probably find out more info if you want me to pass it on?

Nah to be honest if I can actually get out there with a VISA I am sorted but I appreciate it. I was down in Waterloo a couple times on my trip tho. There is one of the best eye clinics in the world down there and that was also part of the reason I was there for 2 months.

i have good eye's so never needed a trip ,but yeah waterloo is fine,not the prettiest part of Canada but up with the best cities you'll find around Ontario anyway

I have a junior cert(passed everything) and have 5th year completed and when thats transferred to the Canadian system it means I have completed grade 11. I only needed grade 10 to get work in Canada. If I get out I will be doing an apprenticeship as a sparky. Have no experience whatsoever of it but I reckon its probably one of the best trades to have so thats what I will do if things work out
