Tax Refunds & Revenue's PAYE Anytime

I'm owed a few bob from the taxman for both bin charges and also college fees going back over the last few years and I figure I should claim it while the government still has the money!
Anyhow, I registered with ROS for the PAYE Anytime system and while it looks fairly slick and was easy enough to add the bin charges to the system, I now have the two following questions which I hope someone can help with (or alternatively I'll ring them in the morning but God knows how long that might take)

    * it refers to tax credits for my service (bin) charges from 2006 on but aren't these ways of reducing my existing taxable income amount? I want hard cash and none of this other nonsense. Will I receive any cash should I submit the form for these bin charges (for 4 years)?

    * I paid for my MSc and would also like to get the tax back on this. I don't however, see anything on the PAYE Anytime system for this. Do I have to complete and print the PDF form?

    TIA

Yes, tax credits refer to the actual amount of tax i.e. hard cash. Reliefs refer to an amount to be taken off your taxable income (so for a relief the amount of hard cash = Relief x Tax rate).

You can't claim for that online. But also that form isn't relevant for claiming relief for an MSc. You should just call into the public counter with whatever receipts / documentation you have from the University, or alternatively post in the receipts (enter your PPS no. into the contact locator on the Revenue website for the relevant address), with a cover letter quoting your PPS No. and asking for a P21 balancing statement for the relevant year(s). Keep copies of anything you hand / send in, just in case the originals disappear into the bureaucratic depths...

Bugger. I was hoping not to have to stand in a queue.
    Thanks for the help.
