Every morning on my way to work i stop at ponaire in limerick and get a coffee and all is well...the buzz lasts all of 4 seconds with my tolerance levels and then im forced to resort to the office gunk...

I was thinking getting my own for work..maybe a french press

But ive never used one! do i put ground bean into it or what?

Can anyone thing of another way to avoid the office gunk?

Buy a hario filter kit from coffee angel and get a thermos flask. Make your fresh filter coffee in the morning and bring it to work - does the trick for me.

Re French Press, they are simple to use. See http://coffeegeek.com/guides/presspot
You would need a separate grinder to grind the beans. Cheapest decent grinder would be a Hario hand grinder for around €40. I think Ponaire also sell Baratza electric coffee grinders.
Alternatively, buy pre-ground coffee to use with your FP - Ponaire can grind the beans of your choice for you. Pre-ground coffee won't be nearly as fresh though.
Can get a FP in Tesco that does the job for around €7.
I think that Cafe Kaos, which is very near Ponaire in the Milk Market, sells the aforementioned Hario V60 filter brewer as well as the Aeropress (both vg alternatives to FP).

You can get a french press /travel mug combo. I'll try to find a link. You just put ground coffee in the end, fill with water, give it a chance to brew, then gently push the plunger down. Rinse in the sink when finished and once you've got some more ground coffee with you, you can repeat during the day as much as you want.
