Best sports pics

    Hi folks,

I work in a company that's involved in sports so we have a few framed pictures hanging on the walls of horse-trainers posing in the winner's circle, champion jockeys and so on, and a few murals of Venus Williams and the likes decorate the walls. I reckon that we are missing a trick though because I went to a sports photography exhibition that was on in Temple Bar a few years ago and the pictures were amazing. They showed pain and agony and triumph and victory - really spectacular shots. To have something similar in an office environment would be really motivating.

I googled around a bit the last few days using keywords such as 'Best Sports Photography', 'Spectacular Sports Photography', Motivating/Inspirational sports photography, and I can't find anything.

This is the kind of thing I'm looking for: Does anyone know a good source of such images? What are your favourite sports photographs?

I googled iconic moments in sports and choose images and this came up
    http://www.google.ie/search?q=iconic+moments+in+sport&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=jWF&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&prmd=ivns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=-m_ITZX8NovqOauxwfUB&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CA8Q_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=618

Is there any particular line of sport that the company particiapates in, I shoot a lot of equestrian sports

If you google iconic sporting events the vast majority that pop up are US sports. If you want Irish sports then the links to Inpho and Sportsfile above would have the largest choice available.

These are two of my own favourites that are on my own website. Not really iconic but they do show triumph and emotion.

You'll find a good number of photographers here on boards cover sports at different levels.

I cover rugby (Magners League, Heineken Cup, international) as well as football.

Iconic? Maybe not, but some of note. :D

Its an online betting company - about 200 staff - I am thinking of (I suppose) soccer, athletics, cycling, team sports - but really anything that shows dramatic moments of pain, agony, exhaustion, elation, victory etc.

Rather than just showing pictures of sports people smiling at the camera, I am looking for examples of really dramatic, emotional shots as a motivational tool, I suppose. Those Ballyman shots are good example. I'll check out the other links below as well.

My website is in what you might call the early stages of development/work in progress :)

I am updating the galleries every day so you can check back again in a few days when there will be more online.

If you need anything from it then let me know.

OP ... when you say you are "looking" for these types of images are you looking to purchase commercial rights to use these images in shop or shops? (images on display for public) or purchase several framed copies to put up in office buildings (not on public display)

I'm sure the business will be well aware that using the images in-store or in multiple stores may require paying the photographer the relavent commercial usage payments..... of course, thats upto a deal being struck between the business and the photographer but commercial rates and image usage rights tend to be fairly expensive (in the thousands per image)

have a look at Getty or check any stock photo website for an estimate of commercial usage costs. (this goes for both photographers and businesses reading this)

Ps. Steve (Stcstc) on boards does custom framing and printing and is recommended as he give a boardsie discount :D (I think)

i remember a photo of roy keane and mick mccarty kinda shaking hands after an international in landsdowne road. while there is not any sporting action in the photo it does show how their relationship was nearing breaking point!

Kensutz here has a brilliant one of John Mullane letting off a bit of steam after scoring in a game.
For raw emotion its one of the best sports shots I've ever seen.
