What round would you choose if reloading made it affordable for you to use that round.:D

If I was reloading for my .223 it would still be the v-max head. They are just brilliant on fox.

For foxing? I'd load up 85 gr ballistic tips for the .25-06 to about 3650 fps and turn them inside out. :) Could also just go with one dual purpose load and load the 100gr Barnes TSX to about 3250-3300 fps. Would make a great bullet for both fox and deer.

50gr Vmax and Varget powder for 22/250. 87gr V max and Varget for 243. They go down and stay down

For me it would be a 90 gr bullet in a .270, and of course reloading would mean the .270 would perform like it was intended to!

Never used such a bullet but the late Jw did and said they were like a laser out to 400 yards!

the only thing i know for sure is that if reloading was legal, i'd still spend the same amount on shooting my 223, but i'd be shooting it way more:D

That'd be a screamer actually. Very nice. I was just going on what I had, but could do something interesting alright. 6-284 with a 105gr Amax at 3600 fps might be nice too. This is what I love about the idea of reloading, playing around with wildcat cartridges and alterations to get something just a little different, as well as using great old classic cartridges to their full potential. Would really enrich the hobby.

    The 22 br and a 64 or 75 grainer
also does it for me....reloading and wildcatting....If only we could:mad:

It'd be a fantastic addition to the hobby. Hopefully won't be too much longer until we're able to do all the same things more enlightened places can do. Could go both ends of the spectrum, tweaking big capacity 6mm cases for laserbeam trajectory and modern performance and using old classics like the 7x57 and 6.5x55 to their full potential. The latter would be an incredible cartridge if we weren't stuck with underloaded factory fodder, as would the former, though it's not quite so mistreated. It really does bring a whole new spectrum of things to do to the table though.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.223_WSSM

With a 60 grain fly as flat as a .223, yet have enough puch to take deer, legally (1857ft/lbs) and cleanly

    And with a 40grain, a true laser

And 75 grain or 90 grain VLD's the skies the limit

Not in 75grain, yes in 40 grain, but that's what Moly is for, and it's an "if" thread after all ;)

It does raise some interesting questions though, doesn't it? I mean, we're typically confined to what we can get affordable factory ammo for with good supply, but what would you all have in your collection if that weren't an issue? I know, personally, I'd be using some very different stuff.

I would just boost the speed of my .270 back to what it should be...

I Don't really belong on this thread, I can re-load and don't. I really must rectify that!
In fairness I sympthise completely; I can't understand why shooters arent allowed to re-load in the 26... :o

I thought more of you lads would start reloading .220 swifts? Or even a .222?

Actually, that's a good one. I love the swift for it's silly, dinosaur proportions, would love to have one.

my neighbour shoots a 257 weatherby
    using 100 grain ballistic tips
its deadly on foxes out to 600 yards

OH yeah over 600 rounds per lb. of powder and like a laser out to 200 along with super explosive on foxes, perfect for the small bog gardens around me.

Heard they could be very fickle to load for though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,795 ✭✭✭fish slapped

    Prob... a 6mm br

90gr Bergers at 3300fps and I love to try a 58gr vmax also super accurate.

thats the biggest problem with some hornet brass, its very thin,
would be a good caliber though i reckon, often hear of lads that use it and love it on the uk forums, similar to normal .22 hornet having no recoil and little noise but a lot faster and flatter, would whoop the .17hmr's ass:D

if not a .17 ackley hornet i'd pick something else fast and flat like a 17 rem, 204 or a swift or some form of .17 or .20 wildcat calibre
    SPEED KILLS

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,795 ✭✭✭fish slapped

As most of us that spent our youth abusing motorbikes know SPEED does not KILL, it's the sudden STOP that does that!!! :D:D

Always loved the hornet, a real round to teach you your craft.

Wildcats aside id be trying to load the exact factory ammo that i buy

.204 ruger with a 39gr sbk running at 3750fps once its works out cheaper than buying it (which it would)
