London City Airport question

    Hi folks,

I'm hoping one of you learned souls can help me...

I've been booked to travel from Dublin to Paris Orly via London City at the end of the month. The Dublin-London flight is scheduled to arrive at 08:55, with the Orly flight due to depart at 09:30.

I've never been in LCY before, so I'm wondering if that 35 minute gap provides ample time to disembark, pass through security and make it to my connection?

I'm assuming my baggage will be automatically transferred to the next flight, seeing as it's all part of the one booking...

    CityJet through, I'd presume?

I've only ever used them direct in to LCY with no changing but you're off the plane and in the terminal in minutes and their checkin time in LCY is 15 minutes; so I think you'll be OK if maybe a little rushed.

    Sorry, yes... flying with CityJet.

You need a bit of luck.

    That's what I'm worried about. :(

Having looked at the link MYOB provided, it does look very tight!

You'll be fine. I've connected there before. You'd be amazed how quickly you can get through an airport when you have a thru ticket!

JFK T5 to T4 including picking up boarding pass at check in and clearing security in 35 minutes!

Just a bit worried because I had a close call at Schiphol last year and have been a bit wary ever since. Obviously, it's bigger than LCY but there's normally other factors that have to be brought into the equation.

If Cityjet sold the ticket as a single package, its going to be fine.

It's a very small airport with quite short check in and baggage drop times indicating how easy it is to get through the airport. That said there can be pinchpoints and queues at times. At your time, the outbound rush will have just ended so I doubt you'll have a problem. I think Cityjet has been trying to organise a connections channel as part of the current reconfiguration but it shouldn't be necessary. They've just finished changing the security arrangements so now you use a turnstile with your boarding pass and the scanning area is state if the art. The gate positioning can be confusing if you haven't been there before.

It was booked for me through the Voyages SNCF website as part of a single package, so hopefully that amounts to the same thing.

    Thanks for your help. :)

LCY-ORY is on a Fokker 50, which will be a first for me!

Not at all...one of the selling points of LCY is how quick you move from one to another, you can check in and be onboard within 15 mins,im assuming if you have been booked all the way through you will all ready have your 2nd boarding card, and fly through(excuse pun)

that should be plenty of time, no bags to collect, no check in, not a problem..

I've had shorter connections in much bigger airports once had a 30 min layover in Prague when connecting to Ekateringburg, there were 30 of us in the group, our flight was late cutting our transfer time to 15 minutes and the gates were at opposite extreams of the airport, we all made it and they took off no more than 5 minutes late

Thanks for all the responses, folks. Sounds like I don't have much to worry about. :)

If the City jet flight takes off on time and arrives on time in LCY perhaps not.

However any hitch eg missing passenger in Dublin and security check, ATC delays, tech probs, windy conditions at LCY could impact your connection.

I wouldn't worry unduly, but I certainly would no be as blasé as some posters;)

You'll still need a bit of luck, good luck with that.

I think that some of the scaremongerers might want to read this....

    http://www.cityjet.com/dyn/_news/cityjet-open-direct-transfer-facility-at-london-city.shtml
CITYJET OPENS DIRECT TRANSFER FACILITY AT LONDON CITY

    Thursday 24th February 2011.

CityJet, the airline flying from the heart of London, has introduced a Direct Transfer Facility at its London City Airport hub. The new initiative is in response to the increasing number of CityJet customers connecting via London City to destinations across its expanding European network. The Direct Transfer Facility announcement coincides with the launch of new CityJet routes to Florence, Avignon and Toulon. In addition, CityJet has recently re-introduced its seasonal routes to the popular destinations of Deauville, (Normandy) and Brive, (Dordogne) for the 2011 summer season.

Passengers with onward connections at London City can proceed straight to the new CityJet Transfer Desk located just next to UK Border Control at London City Airport. Passengers will then be quickly escorted through border control and security before being taken directly to the departure lounge or appropriate gate for their next flight.

Passengers with connecting flights also have the convenience of checking their baggage in directly to their final destination from their departure airport.

‘Customers who have already experienced the new CityJet Transfer Facility have been really impressed; commenting on its speed and efficiency. With a mere 30-minute transfer time, CityJet can truly say we offer our passengers one of the most seamless and efficient connecting procedures – allowing them to maximise the use of their time’ said the CEO of CityJet, Christine Ourmières.

Richard Gooding CEO of London City said “This is good news for travellers, providing an extra service, helping to support CityJet’s introduction of new routes at London City”.
