Just wondering has anyone any personal reviews, experiences or opinions on the cube acid 2011?

Looking to purchase through the BTW scheme at €880 and just seeing if there's better value for money out there or would I be spot on picking up one of these? new enough to the MTB scene so what else would I really need to pick up for regular trips to Ballyhoura?

    Cheers

880 seems very dear for the cube acid , i got cube pro for 960 cash and thats a few models higher .
The frame is the same as my bike , its nice and light frame, i found the build quality of the cubes good.
I assume you want it for some cross country if its mostly for road use i would reccomend somethin thats not a mountain bike .

Ya I'd be looking mainly at cross country with maybe a small bit of road every now and again. Do you mind me asking where you got the pro at that price? I'm just going off the shops price online so haven't haggled with the owner at all. I had a feeling the store was expensive though. Would there be a major difference between the acid and the pro to warrant a price hike?

the best difference is with the suspension , you have remote lockout on the suspension on the pro , which i dont think any of the lower models have .
The remote lockout is very handy as it makes it real easy to lockout suspension when not needed like on road or goin uphill its saves you energy , its a well worth addition imo. I will pm you where i got it as im not sure im allow reccomend on here.

Not sure about the remote lock out only being on the pro, I know someone with a lesser model and it has it.

your dead right there actually , my bad totally , the comp and the acid seem to have it too on the rockshox, so you dont have to raise the budget just for this feature, but a comp is attainable for you budget and a pro should be for a little more with bargaining

They also do a rent & buy thing where if you rent a bike then buy one they give you the price of the rental off.

Super nice guys there. They give you genuine advice (if you listen) they talked me down from buying a cube ltd and told me to save my money and buy the acid. almost same components for 400 less. All I was getting was half a kilo lighter for the dearer bike.

Ah well really your gettin a much better front suspension, better hydraulic brakes ,and somewhat better tyres , the rapid robs are the job for cross country i ride pretty aggressive at times and the tyres never give an inch, also i got the anodized frame well worth it if you want an alternative to paintjob.

I think the '11 Acid is anodized (not sure though). http://www.cube.eu/en/hardtail/comp-series/acid-black-white/ It has PopLoc remote lockout also.

I know there are differences in spec (fork brakes etc), which would be noticable if you are really pushing the bike. Its down to what you want out of the bike. The way the dude (forget his name, maybe Declan) put it was - unless you are competing in competitions (or against your own times) you're not going to notice the difference in performance. For now (I'm just starting out) I don't push it to race like limits, so I don't think I could justifiy the extra money. You're going at it fairly aggressively so you see the benefit. Horses for courses as they say. I'm just out there for the thrill of it. I don't mind if I'm not the fastest (for now). After a year or 2 I'll go again for something higher end, maybe even a full sus if santa brings it. :D

I have yet to purchase it (waiting on the mandarins for the bike to work), but after hours of research I'm going for the Acid too. My old bike is taking a battering on trail at the minute.

With your 120 left over on the btw you should get helmet (~€40), bottle cage & bottle at the least. Cycling gloves with pads take some impact out of your wrists. A saddle bag with some tools (puncture repair/ tube, allen key / screwdriver mulititool, maybe a small chain tool) would be a wise investment if you don't have one. Cycling shoes too maybe. Thats pretty much all I have. I also have space in the saddle bag for my phone (with bubble wrap). Its handy to keep a GPS log and look at your stats afterwards.

Nope that acid is just painted black its the second thing on the specs list. well you could always swap in better components later on , exact same frame etc .

The anodized does look good, and I am still tempted with my original idea of the ltd team http://www.cube.eu/en/hardtail/ltd-series/ltd-team-black-anodized/ which is a really good looking and nicely speced bike. its 1150 on CRC as opposed to 845, so in terms for value for money the team is worth the extra 300 for all the extra components and the lighter weight, but I won't get the value out of it I think.

Don't tempt me though, I really like the ltd :D

I was tempted by the team too when i was buying , but there came i point where i just set a limit and that was that otherwise i would keep justifying going higher and higher the ltd pro for 960 was perfect for me as you have to factor in the following too .
    A decent helmet prob € 40 plus
A good lock i got a kryptonite extra strong and thick u lock and a kryptoflex cable for €75 or so , i wouldnt trust many other longs with any decent bike.
Miscelanous bits and piece such as mudguards or saddle bag etc €60 or more

Ya I reckon I'll go with that one. It sounds pretty alrite and what I'd be after. Cheers for the extra info and stuff to get because I wan't 100% sure on what else you'd really need for it.
