Giro - Tragic crash in today's stage - Wouter Weylandt condolence thread

I've changed the thread title and re-written the OP

You will see from the posts below that there was a horrific crash in today's stage, and tragically Belgian rider Wouter Weylandt has passed away

Hence it's inappropriate to comment on the race itself in such circumstances, and I think it best if this thread is turned over to condolences

    Thanks

    Beasty

    RIP

That accident looks very worrying. Cyclist down & unconscious!

Just watching it on the internet (via a link) there, and some rider took a massive fall on that descent, it looked nasty !!!! Hope he's ok.

Fingers crossed that he is ok , but I fear the worst, the medics were pounding on the guys chest , blood flowing free from his nose :(

That looked very worrying.........one pic showed Weylandt was a bit smashed and unconscious. A heli shot showed medics were with him really quickly, so hopefully they'll be able to sort him out.

It is Wouter Weilandt indeed - am following the Belgian reports. They tried to incubate him, italian reports say he had a pulse when he was airlifted to hospital.

All podium ceremonies will be cancelled in respect to Wouter.

God bless his family and hopefully he'll pull through.

RAI just reported doctors were able to get his heart beating again.

Although unconfirmed other reports state otherwise.
I really hope he pulls through.

So far as I am concerned this is something that posters should not want to find out through watching delayed coverage (should there be any), and hence I do not think the normal spoiler rules should be applied in the circumstances

What happened, guys? Don't want the gory details, and it's not appropriate right now, but just wondered was it a fast descent or a coming together with another rider?
