    Lads,

Just wondering if there is a an alternative to scrapping a car that is not worth repairing. Have a 05 Mondeo diesel estate that's in good nick, NCT'd and well minded. Now the high pressure pump and four injectors need replacing with a preliminary quote of about €1,600 all in. The car is only worth €3,000 to €3,500 at best in working order.

    Does anyone know

    a) What it would be worth from scrap.
    b) any alternative to this. It seems a shame to scrap the car

    Any ideas/ suggestions welcome.

    Thanks.

Other than making it a feature of your garden , the only two options are get rid or fix. Sell it for very little to someone that might take on the work themselves.

Would people really pay even close to a grand for a Mondeo with a totalled Diesel injection system?

I presume if you will be honest and say it's only a minor glitch, but you don't have time to fix it, because your gf is giving historical pregnancy while you paying deposit for mortgage and that you are leaving country in the next 5 mins so you need it gone fast!

On a similar note, retired large vans make great garden sheds. :p

You would be at the buyers mercy. But you could sell it. A grand I don't know. There is someone for every car you never know.

Its fixable as a project with time. Second hand bits maybe but will be a ball ache.

would a scrapyard engine be a cheaper fix?

Parts going cheap on ebay. Surely a ring to Traynors is worth checking out. Re-con and fix?
