    hi all, help pls

i just want to know if ill be better or worse off. Im hving an interview next week, for a part time job, 16 hrs, Mon - Fri, 9 euro an hr.

my partner, the main claimer, is still unemployed. Im the adult dependent. With 312.80 a week, to pay rent (no rent allowance yet), fuel, electric, food, etc, as you can tell, money is tight. cant wait for winter actually, yippie

so if i do get the part time job, and my partner still can keep his full amount, ill take the job. but if i take the job, and the money we're getting is less than 312.80 week + more fuel expenses to get to work, i dont know what im gonna do , . pls dont think its greed or laziness, im sure u understand its common sense.

You get deducted a 6th of your dole for each day worked (That's a 6th because dole doesn't include Sundays)
You can only work a maximum of 3 days, but can work however many hours in those 3 days. You cannot work Mon-Fri (even if it's only 10am to 12 am) and claim casual worker.

edit: Sorry, I didn't realise you were talking about the dependant. I have no idea, but I presume they're not dependant on you if they are working.

    A couple of things here

    JSB or JSA

If you get a part time job you will not qualify as a adult dependent.

    really? :(

phoned citizen information today, explained the situation, the nice lady on the ph briefly calculated for me based on the info i gave her, how much will i be earning per day, deduct 20 euro per day, and all that, she said that 84 euro will be deducted from 124.80 that i get weekly.

anyway, on top of what i earn (if i get the job), we will be 60 euro better off. so maybe she didnt realise the "adult dependent" part. :(

ok just to be sure, if i get a job, part or full time, i cant keep my 124.80. but my partner can still keep the 188 yes?

mp22, is there a link for the info you just gave? thx

The citizens information person is right, as a qualifed adult you can work and €20 per day is disregarded from your earnings and then 60% of the balance is deducted from your part of your partners payment. I know its very complicated but you can look it up on www.citizensinformation.ie
There is also a new payment out now but I don't know much of the details but if you go in to the above site and search under part time job incentive and follow the links on employment support to the welfare site this might also apply in your situation.

Sorry I'm probably just confusing you all the more.

If on JSB this will apply http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/irish_social_welfare_system/claiming_a_social_welfare_payment/claiming_an_increase_in_your_social_welfare_payment_for_an_adult_dependant.html

if you are on JSA http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/irish_social_welfare_system/means_test_for_social_welfare_payments/means_test.html

Apologies my earlier post was incorrect.

Hi I know where your coming from !!!

My husband is the main claimer - claiming for me 138 per week and also for the children. I agree with you its nothing to do with greed or anything like that its about surviving !! Did you check to see if you can do a CE Scheme? The reason why I say that is because you do get to keep your full claim (dole) and your partners is not affected. It works out at 208 per week which is 19.5 hours per week. I think that might suit you better. If you are entitled to do a CE Scheme (you have to be on the dole for more than a year to qualify) then your partner may have to sign what is called a spousal swap! At least this way you still get your full entitlements and do actually get the full 208 a week - also if you have children it works out better for a person on CE to claim for the children as it works out around 28 per week for each child where on the dole is only 19 !! Hope I have been able to help you a little bit !!

    hello DeeRMcC,

I hv been on dole for 3 months, so not entitled to CE Scheme yet. I did apply for CE Scheme doing Childcare, that was when I wasnt even on dole payment yet. Then I was told I wasnt qualified to do CE Scheme. i was upset that I couldnt apply for that because Id love to work in Childcare area. No childcare course in my area at the minute either.

The soonest childcare course is in October, not local, abt 1 hr away from where i live. :(
Btw, do u happen to know if we get travel cost reimbursement if we join FAS course? ill hop on the bus everyday no bother if they do

thx for your info and input Dee, will definitely remember this when im still jobless and on dole next year :o
