Flat roof into a decked area?

I was thinking about making changes to my flat roof extension. Knowing that I would nee planning permission to change it into a decked area I am wondering about what do I need to do to check the structure is strong enough.
obviously a proper survey would need to be done before work but I was wondering if I could get a rough idea before considering it. Essentially it is a one story extension with a flat roof roughly 4m*5m. I was thinking I could recover the ceiling and put a wood deck over it.

Any ideas on what way I need to construct this? If I need to underpin the extension it will be probably not be worth it. Just trying to get an idea at the moment.

We can't discuss structural issues here. Your best bet is to get it looked at by a structural engineer.

as above, structural issues are not to be discussed.

    Planning permission IS required however.
