The Warriors Run is a 15km Multi Terrain taking place in Strandhill, Sligo, on Saturday 27th August.

Now I thought registration was opening today at midday (homepage indicates registration open), but registration page still shows about another hour till opening.

Anyhow, good luck to all entering. Places are limited to 800.

Looks like the server/website is having problems. The page isn't loading for me.

It does appear to be, took a while, but completed mine. Got the paypal receipt anyway.

A friend of mine didn't get taken back to a page to collect her bib number after registering. When I go to the website it brings me to a blank page saying "403 forbidden" haha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,583 ✭✭✭cloneslad

yeah, previous year's winner always gets allocated bib number 403, so you can't have it :p

I'm waiting until I register my 3rd and final entrant, then I'll send them off an e-mail looking for my bib numbers because I also didn't get taken back.

Website crashed, have to try tomorrow

Oh my goodness!! haha The same will just happen tomorrow! Why don't they have the race in different waves. That way lots more people can run.

If only MoonDancer, if they split it into people under 85 mins / people over 85 mins for instance they could have got an extra 400 entries easily.

Plus they wouldn't have had to increase the entry fee by €10....

I still don't understand why it's still being held at 3pm, if they want to allow people some time to travel down to it then why not hold it at 1pm?

Anyway, I guess I can't complain too much, it's a very successful race and others would love their site to crash due to the number of people trying to register.

€40 is a bit steep for a 15k race and a cotton t-shirt though. I was able to apply for marathons, 30kms, halfs marathons etc for less than that in Korea, get a proper running t-shirt, a windbreaker jacket, or a pair of runners. As well as getting a cert posted to me a few weeks after the race with my official time and my picture on it (though the first one they sent me had some random korean man on it )

It's not really fair to be comparing Irish prices to Korean prices but €40 is crazy money for what you're getting in the Warriors.

A cotton t-shirt and a ham sandwich is hardly something to write home about, lets not forget the majority of people working there are volunteers - so that's not consuming the budget.

Exactly! I was talking to one of the committee members, and apparantly there aren't enough volunteers or time to organise a race with different waves. Surely someone must be making a lot of profit out of it.
It's just getting greedy now, they see the demand has grown but they just up the price cos they know people will pay it.

why not? the cost of living is not much cheaper in Korea than it is in Ireland. I mean buying any running shoes, gels, shorts etc, hell even normal things like electronics, meat, fruit etc is actually more expensive than it is back home.

The average wage for most of the people in the area where I lived was €4,000-€5,000 a month. The 30k run I did in the local area cost me about €13 including goody bag, medal, snacks afterwards, with water - pepsi-glucose drink-bananas-jelly beans throughout the racea choice of windbreaker or shoes as a gift and then the cert with your pic on it a few weeks later.

Even the seoul dongA international marathon, which is massive event offering $80,000 for first place , $40,000 for second and so on (both male and female), gets tens of thousand of entrants, each of whom get a technical running shirt, medal, goody bag etc etc and it's only $40 to enter. They have to close down seoul city centre for this race, yet it is cheaper than the warriors run, and more importantly it's is 2-3 times cheaper than what could be considered equal to it, the Dublin marathon.

just got registered there, no major drama,
had to wait 14 minutes for the page to refresh , and then all went fine, which is good cos until i saw this page yesterday i had completely forgotten about it..
as of 5 minutes ago there were 270 odd registered so there are a good few places left..
maybe a wave start would be a good way to go next year if the interest keeps up

Don't know what's wrong with my machine - I'm still getting the same message?! suppose I'll just keep trying!

Thanks for the link - tried it and was brought onto the website, but it's now told me that I will be re-directed back to the site in 35 mins! Suppose I'd better do some good training now after all this wait!!

48minute wait for me - they should have let Run Ireland or a website that was able to take the capacity to deal with registration

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 GeraldineN

Well I'm finally registered! Now all I have to do is the training!!

Not even close! They opened for 20 mins yesterday before the site went down & almost 200 registered in that time, today they more or less opened again at about 5:45 as they had lots of problems earlier & it's sold out now just after 9.
    That is mental!!

Was open for about an hour or two yesterday, and from 2pm today, if that due to all the crashes. Stand bys or transfers are the only way in now.

cant understand the demand increase in this from last year to this year. it took months before the 800 was filled last year. web design very poor!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

This was on the back of my mind basically forgotten about until I got a reminder from someone about it. Was hmmming and hawwwing about it and there was near enough 300 places left. Decided to register and it had plummeted to only 70 or so at that stage. Completed payment and redirected to the homepage and in that space of time it had dropped to 11 !

Quickest registering I've ben involved in bar concert tickets.

ahh yes but no one will be racing the web:) it's a great route, in a great location and the festival fun is mighty.

Dont underestand the correlation between web design poorness and how fast reg fills this year or last. The demand is more than last year for sure. But last year the last 400 places sold in only a few days: when people realised there would be a rush.

There was no illusions this year and with half of Dublin and all of Sligo determined not to be left out the rush happenned immediately.

The website design is mediocre. The content needs to be improved by lots. They need a server or for it to be professionally hosted to handle the traffic.

Youll need grips on those asics this year! Should be good crack.

That website is a pile of xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx! Ran up there for the last 2 years and everytime I went to the site since May 9th it has been down. Now I cant even get my name on the standby list. Ridiculous. You would think for €40 they would have put some kind of a proper server up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,583 ✭✭✭cloneslad

Although the website crashing was annoying, you must remember that this is a small local race of only 800 competitors, they don't have the resources both financially and physically to run a 100% efficient operation online, they do organise a great race without any hitches, give them a few years to get it right and I'm sure they will have all the small problems sorted out to prevent anything like this happening again, in fact, I'm sure they'll have learned their lesson for next year.

The reserve list hasn't opened yet, keep an eye on the facebook page LINK as they are keeping everyone informed there. They have updated recently to say that they hope to have the reserve list registration open at 12:30pm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 85 ✭✭broders3

    Hey Cloneslad.

I do admit it is a small local operation. The only reason I’m so annoyed is that I really want to run it. I pretty much base my years training around the last Saturday in August! I do a lot of hill running in Dublin during the summer to get ready. Hopefully I can get something on the standby list. Not trying to have a go at the owners, my disappointment is because it is such a great race. 800 people obviously feel the same way
