Motor Oil for 06 Audi A4 1.9 TDi

I just want to double check something about adding oil to my car. I got some Halfords brand 15w/30 (looked up their charts), but now Im thinking for a TDi I should probably get a higher performance oil.

Would it really make much of a difference in a four year old car? Also should I be using 15w/40 instead? Both seem to fit the specifications in the user manual going by the oil specs.

Lastly, I dont know what oil is in the car at the minute, is there any problems with micing 30 and 40?

To the OP higher performance could be seen as subjective/marketing BS so I don't give a crap about that.

If the 2006 1.9 TDI is a PD TDI and they didn't change the oil spec on the newer PD's then you need an oil that meets the VW505.01 spec.
There is a long life one with a different spec number but if your car is serviced every year it must be the 505.01. Ill add an "only" to that but I am open to correction as I am not as familiar with the newer PD TDI's.

So, you don't need a higher performance oil as such, just one that meets the spec for the engine because this engine for better or worse is very picky when it comes to oil.

Edge 5w 30 I put in mine and the engine was perfect after 200,000 miles when I sold it!

I changed it every 15,000 miles. NEVER before, I think it's a waste of money and the edge oil is expensive! And it was perfect after 200,000 miles so it must be good! it was an 03 A4 TDI 130.

15K mile intervals is fine if you are clocking the miles up quickly which you obviously were, some folks might take 18 months + to do those miles though.
