Where to find a decent (and cheap) one bed apt in Dublin?

Well, it's pretty much what the thread title says... :D

I've had enough of living of inconsiderate annoying housemates and want to get my own place - along with the peace and quiet that goes with it.

So, I'm looking for somewhere in the city centre (D2, 4, 6 or 8) that isn't a basement dungeon which hasn't been decorated for twenty years and is so small that you have to walk sideways in at all times!

I've tried www.daft.ie but, to be honest, there's nothing on there. Any ideas where to look, guide prices or rumours/offers of places going vacant will be greatfully accepted either here or via PM.

Thanking you good people in advance for all help offered, it is much appreciated. :)

I dont think they exist, at least not for less than 700 a month

Are you aiming to buy or rent?

If it's the first, how much do you have roughly to spend and if it's the latter how much rent are you prepared to pay?

Treasury Holdings have pretty good deals on one bed apartments to rent around Spencer Dock from what I remember.

You can get flats in some of the red brick houses around Rathmines and Rathgar for about €400 a month if that's acceptable? If you were prepared to try the northside you could probably get something in Phibsborough or Drumcondra for maybe €50 less.

To be honest, you're not going to get a whole lot cheaper.

Many thanks for your post HavingCrack, it was very helpful. :)

I'm aiming to keep renting at the moment, there's no way that anyone could justify buying (especially a one bed) in the current climate.

Also, where are you seeing those places in Rathmines and Rathgar for €400? I haven't seen any of them on daft. All I've seen are shoebox hovels for over double that and there's no way I am paying that! Don't get me wrong, I'm no snob - I've lived in some awful dumps before while in college and traveling abroad but I'm looking for somewhere that will be a comfortable base for me for a couple of years to come, if you know what I mean?

I suppose I am sticking Southside as it handier for work and socialising purposes, have lived Northside before a few times but it's not an option this time.

You really won't see anything in D6 for 400e - 700 is more like it for something you'd be comfortable in, 600 would be the lower end of the scale. They would all be shoebox size ! South Circular rd is prob the cheapest area in and around D6.

    .

Ah no problem. Sorry I must have misread daft myself, anything below 600 is absolutely tiny :(. The bed is in the same room as the living area so thy are more studios than one bedroom. There's a few alright ones for €500 euro but they're pretty small. You can get better value stuff in Portobello and the South Circular Road.

I've just spent the last two weeks looking for a 1 bed apartment with €650 as my limit. I didn't mind something a bit dingy because you can always do it up nice with ikea furniture and the likes.

I saw a total of 15 apartments in total, and I wouldn't let my dog sleep in them. None of them had seen a lick of paint in years, and were absolutely tiny. One place seemed kind of okay by the phoenix park, until I went back the day after and there was 6 druggies having cans on the front porch, after the landlord told me it was a nice quiet house

Your not going to get anything half way decent by yourself.

I feel your pain! I've been looking on daft for the past month and the adverts have been so bad and the prices so ridiculous that I didn't even bother ringing one of them! :( I think you are right though and there just isn't anywhere decent around for a one person. Looks like I'll have to get a roomie...

However, I'm going to shout out this question again though as nobody either seems to know or daft is the only place (I hope not!) or it got overlooked but does anyone know if there is anywhere else to look apart from www.daft.ie?? There has to be somewhere else that advertises places to let, hasn't there?

My friend used to have a little one bed apt for 400e in between rathmines and ranelagh. Gorgeous little room, not too small either! :) She moved out about 6 months ago. Little places like that would be snapped up.

I also go into letting agents around the city centre. They sometimes have one bed apartments.
