    Howdy All,

    I recently got about 4 punctures in 2 weeks so I finally decided to replace the original Kenda tyres on my FCR 2 - about 2 years old at this stage.
    The roads are in such a state with glass were I ride from home to work (through city centre then to Sandyford) that I decided I needed some punture 'proofing'!
    As a result when I went into the LBS, the sales guys there talked me into Armadillos. In fairness I was b1tching about punctures so they basically said they were the most puncture proof tyres out.

    I had read a bunch on the internet but I am generally one to try things for myself so ignored a lot of the internet chatter.

    So... it seems that when people say Armadillos are slow, they mean they require more effort to peddle - at least that is exactly what it seems to me, in the 3 weeks I've had them.
    It just seems much harder to get speed and I am out of the saddle way more uphill.

    I have foot pump so have them up around 110psi so that is not a factor.

    One thing I noticed is that they are ment to be 25mm width but seem wider than the old Kenda 26mm.

    Anyway are other people's experience of Armadillos similar???

    What tyre can I get that will get back the speed but have some level of puncture protection - if it exists?

    I used these all winter in 25mm, no punctures despite lots of cuts.

    There is a tradeoff between puncture resistance and ride quality. You have to decide what your priorities are.

    I wouldn't have thought Armadillos massively slow, more slippy in the wet and 'dead' feeling.

    I found the Kendas that came with my Giant to be pretty tough incidentally, if you liked them it would make sense to get more... if you hadn't punctured in 2 years that is very good going.

    GP4000s are nice but arguably a bit wasted on a hybrid and are not in the same category for puncture resistance.
