New Program to start off new gym membership

I'm getting back into the gym after a month off from it and I'd like to start off with a smart program to give good results. Training smarter as opposed to training harder so to speak.
I'd seen alot of people talking about the P90X program but having looked into it, I think that being realist, that its too much for me, 6 days a week up to an hour 20 in the gym? No, thanks. I'd have a nice body but probably no gf :).
I need something that I can do 3 maybe 4 days a week for about 40 minutes max during the week. My diet is ok but could alway be improved and the results I'm looking to achieve are the usual build muscle and tone up.
If anyone here has any constructive advice I'd appreciate it.

    Your stats?

PS - Nutrition is key to any training. (Ok nutrition might not give you the results you want)

    Hi Alan,

Thanks for the reply. Im 5ft 8 and about 11st (thats 70kg I think). At the moment in the gym I just do whatever I feel like, there's no real structure to it. If you know of a good resource or program I'd appreciate the info.
