External Gas Boiler

    Hey Everyone

Was looking to see if this was possible, currently have house with old boiler. Recently gutted the house and done up, replaced electrics etc and installed all new rads etc and insulated all the external walls, put in double glazing etc so have finally paid off and finished all that off I am now looking at changing the boiler. Older Kerosene boiler in back shed which is on last legs and pipes run around 8M from back of garden to house with no insulation so apart from non-condenser boiler I lose most of the heat in those pipes. When it was snowing the snow would melt off the ground along that line

Anyway was looking at something like the following: http://www.firebird.ie/Products/EnviromaxCondensingBoilers/EnviromaxHeatpac.aspx

But with all the issues around oil I was thinking about gas, the way the house is laid out and to not ruin all the work done internally I want soemthing external, I was thinking about getting Bord Gais in, I am in Dublin and pipe runs along the road. Is there such a thing as an external gas boiler? one that will sit outside with housing around it? or will I have to build a small shed or something?? Thanks

Found this one? contacted Vokera and they said this one would be best:

    UNICA BALCONY HE
    High efficiency balcony combi boiler

As this is combi I guess it heats tap water as well? I don't want this. Is it possible to have without

Why not put the boiler in the attic??
I have done this many times!!

Was thinking about this earlier today, It would probably be just as easy as anything. Pipes go into wall and go up to attic and then flow from there. Power already running to attic so would just need to pull up gas!

Hey guys, had a couple of plumbers out, all of them telling me not to put boiler outside because of the cold last year and if we had another year like lsat year I would have major issues. Now I am guess that they are designed to stay outside and it should not be an issue? all of plumber talking about putting into kitchen but where the pipes run it would be an eye sore and would look alot better and neater outside. Any idea's why they are saying you should not use external boiler???

Most combi boilers can be changed to standard system boilers by blanking off the water on demand. This would mean you dont have to go combi if you dont want to.

Perhaps plumbers on here could advise if legislation has changed on this to prevent this but as far as i know it has not.

Not going to use the combi, can get the following as one option off RVR with external casing for outside: http://www.rvr.ie/Products/ACI130/0_292_31_33_93/

More of question if cold weather would it affect boiler or is there good insulation? last winter boiler was out in old shed out back, oil boiler and I had no issue with pipes/boiler frezzing. And this boiler is seriously on last legs. Would expect new boiler would be capable of holding out during cold spells!!
