How to make run a Geothermal Heat Pump more efficiently

We have had Geothermal heating since we built our 2800sq ft home 4 years ago. While its wonderful having constant hot water and a nice ambient temperature I find that its still pretty expensive to run. Matter what, our electricity bills are very high. We do have a night rate meter installed, but am wondering if its possible to install a timer switch onto a heat pump so that its turned off at night time? Also what is the best water temp to set to run most efficiently?
    Thanks

Get a heating engineer in. He will explain how heat pumps are used efficiently and will do some meassurements and recommendations. Everything in writing!
