Folks i am going to flash a new gingerbread rom (leedroid 3.0). It suggests a radio which i have also downloaded in zip format. Should i use this? At what stage do i flash the radio? Is it before the rom? Somebody rooted for me hence the question and google isn't helping. Thanks.

I dont know what phone you are talking about but for Galaxy S custom Roms you flash the radio after the ROM. but if you don't know that, are you sure you want to flash a rom?

Try reading around the XDA forums and asking there. You'll get answers from people who really know what they are talking about.

Its a Desire. Have put a few on already but haven't encountered the Radio issue as being important before. Everything is backed up anyway with rom manager and titanium so should be OK

Some ROM developers say that certain Radios work better with their ROMs, and using different radios would result in quicker battery drain, poorer GPS and worse signal.

I'm not sure evidence exists to back this up though.

If flashing a radio, its a straight forward process but follow the instructions carefully. Messing up a radio flash could potentially brick your phone. I haven't heard of it happening to anyone, but just follow the instructions to the letter and you'll be fine.

There are certain radios recommended for each Rom. All the radios are listed on on thread on xda started by adamg. A Google will get you there.

I have been on XDA etc. I have downloaded the recommended radio for this ROM I am fine with the instructions until point 6) Run the recovery-windows.bat script from modaco r5 root pack. WTF does this mean?

I have the Android SDK folder downloaded with drivers etc in it

    Thanks lads.

Not sure what step 6 your on about there. I'm on lee Droid and didn't do that bit.

I flash the radio after the rom and it always worked, not 100% sure if it matters either way.

FYI its on 3.05 now so get that version.

Yep thats the version I have downloaded (3.05) However Lee suggests Radio_32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08 as being best suited. So is it basically put it on the root of my SD and boot into manual recovery and flash zip from SD? Im guessing it can't be done on ROM Manager.

    From the XDA thread

    How to flash the radios:

Make sure you have the usb driver installed from the android sdk
    Turn your desire off
Hold the back button and turn your desire on
When you are at the white screen, make sure BOOTLOADER is selected and press the power button
Wait a few seconds then press volume down to select RECOVERY and press the power button again
When you are at the screen with the red triangle and the phone, plug in the usb cable
Run the recovery-windows.bat script from modaco r5 root pack
When the recovery menu appears select 'Flash zip from sdcard'
Select the radio zip file and press the trackerball to confirm
Press the trackerball over 'Reboot system now'
When the radio image has finished being written unplug the usb cable
The phone will reboot a couple of times and then return to a normal state with your new radio

That should work fine from manual recovery that's how I usually flash everything anyway on my Hero, as far as I understand the important thing is to be patient while the phone is rebooting after the flash, takes longer than when you flash a ROM, so make sure your phone is well charged, and just leave it alone for about 15 mins when it's rebooting- so that you're not tempted to intervene

Strange that I never have to plug my phone in to USB to flash a radio. I reboot into recovery and flash zip from SD card so I'd just do that.

Put it on root of SD card as you.

You might need to be s-off for lee droid 3.x by the way. I changed to.it just incase as most people s-on seemed to have problems initially.

Have you changed to the bravo stock partition table using alpharev already?
