Under 25 renting in Vegas

    Hey All,

I'm off to Vegas at the end of this month with a few friends from work and was looking to rent a car but was told that I can't due to my age (23).

The friends I'm traveling with are all older than me (over 25) with 2 fully licensed drivers. I'd love to drive when I'm over there so is there a way that one of the guys could rent the car and I could also be insured as like a 2nd driver? Does this work the same way in the States or with rental companies?

Any information or previous experiences would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

My experience in the states (all be it more than 10 years ago:o) was that the major rental companies (Hertz, etc) won't rent to or cover a driver under 25. But that the smaller companies will do so (for a fee:D) - so I'd say you're unlikely to get cover as a named driver if they won't rent to you, but if you hunt around you should find a rental company who will deal with you.

PS A quick check - Enterprise (who sorted me out in San Fran back in '98:o) will still rent to the under 25's - select the drivers age range from the combo: http://www.enterprise.ie

What are you trying to rent, you can usually rent from the age of 23 on, sometimes 21 depending on the company, but they charge you an extra "Under-age" fee for everyday that usually ends up near doubling the cost.

I was able to rent a Mustang in Florida last year when I was 23, so it can be done.

One of the lads has his heart set on a Dodge Charger, obviously no complaints from this corner :p. Fingers crossed we can arrange some sort of a deal.

Thanks for that info, I'll give Enterprise a ring so on my lunch break and find out the full scoop.

I've rented a car with friends a couple of times in the US when under 25. My experience was that they charge you 25 dollars extra a day and we only had 1 driver insured to drive it. To have 2 drivers under 25 would have cost more and I think 2 drivers was the limit.

I think you can drive the car if you pay the extra 25 dollars a day. You'd really have to check with the rental companies directly but from my experience you and your friend could drive it legally if you have the cash.
