Anyone know what this triathlon is like from past experience. Any info on the swim section especially, with/against the current? etc

I did this a couple of years ago. Very nice event-I'd recommend it. The bike leg in particular is beautiful, to Lauragh and back along the coast.

The swim is a sea water, very sheltered and no current. Was a bit short the year i did it- 1200-1250m. Bike was 38k, good surface for the most part but twisty esp on the coastal part. There's one reasonable hill and the last5-6k is a dream- slightly downhill, good road surface and the wind usually at your back...

Run is again slightly short, but it's an honest one.A lot is flat but there's two decent ramps of about 80m height- pretty steep, the second at least is just after halfway so the rest is flat or downhill.

I really enjoyed it, even had a near miss with some cattle on the bike, n true procycling fashion...

    Hi guys.

Any queries on the event then please post here or PM me and I will do my best to get back to you.
the swim course will be the similar to last year AFAIK. Leaves from Star Sailing outside Kenmare. Reasonably sheltered.
The bike course is just short of the 40KM.
Lumpy from Star Sailing (outside Kenmare out to Kilmacilogue Pier, the a quick run into Lauragh.
4km climb at 4% solid gradient to just under 200m.

fast descent and rolling roads back to transition.

Showers and refreshments etc available afterwards.

It would seem that from last years results that most people completed the swim in just under 30minutes.
Best time was 19mins and the longest time in the water was 38minutes.
    Hope that this helps.

Yes it does help a lot - I have been thinking of trying one and swimming would be my weakest area, but I think even the slowest times would be ok.
I should have thought of looking up results myself !
    Thanks

Folks just a reminder that the closing date is fast approaching for the Little Bo Peep Tri in Kenmare.

Closing date is next Friday the 29th of July, with a full race briefing mailed to all participants the following Monday.

The goodie bag this year contains a fantatsic lightweight hoody in a choice of colours.

If anyone has queries then post here or feel free to PM me and I will do my best to answer.

    Thanks.

Anyone see any results online yet? They were supposed to be texted this afternoon but were not. No results available at the prizegiving either. Other than that an excellent event - fair dues to all the stewards, volunteers and marshalls in the terrible weather conditions.

The number of punctures was amazing. I must have passed 30 people at the side of the road. Hope they all got back ok

Everyone eventually made it back safely in the sweeper van. I train on that road a lot and have cycled in large groups on it many times and never witnesed that amount of punctures. The committee will be looking into this as part of post race debrief.

Thanks to everyone that took part in what were pretty miserable conditions for the competitors. I trust that despite the rain during the race that all enjoyed their time in Kenmare. We were very happy given the amount of events on the calendar and in these constrained economic times that we got such a fantastic turnout, that was up on last year.

We in the club would welcome any feedback and suggestions as to how we can make this successful event even better.

great event really enjoyed it, except for the downpour at the briefing!!
amount of punctures was strange. hoody instead of t-shirt was a nice change and a great idea. well marshalled, well organised and great location...much better event and challenge than other better hyped races.

I reckon you get a big turnout because:
    1. It's a great course which really brings out the best in the competitors
    2. The event is exceptionally well run (great transition area, well stewarded, clear direction etc.)
    3. The scenery is top class
    4. Most of the best triathletes in Munster attend - it's a completely different buzz when the big guns are on show

It's hard to suggest many improvements. The pouring rain didn't help on Saturday but one thing that could have improved was the finishing chute. A spectator walked across in front of me as I came towards the mat so a few crash barriers and a clear indication of the finish line would definitely help. Also a prominent clock so athletes can see their time as they finish

I wore the hoodie cycling to work this morning - nice one :)
