Do you believe Osama Bin Laden is dead?

We have a post on his death "occuring" but we haven't had a poll yet, this could be a good poll.

I personally think he is. Out of all the "death reports" down the years and all the talk that the released tapes of him in caves were made up, I think he is definitely dead now.

We all know how much Bush would want him dead, if he was dead we all know Bush would have mentioned it straight away. Obama IMO is the more of the 2 to keep it under wraps if Bin Laden was killed. But with the live press conference and the fact that people reported helicopters landing in the town he was "killed", that convinces me more.

We don't have as much control over the world as we would like. He's definitely dead, whether they killed him years ago or if they are telling the truth and he was killed the other day, he's definitely dead.

Why would they risk the embarrassment of saying he was dead if there was a chance he could still be alive?

Yes he is dead, they wouldn't have made an announcement unless they were sure. It's not the CIA's job to tell everyone exactly how they found him. Plus,. they're running the risk of annoying Al Qaeda even more if they release pictures of him being killed. We don't need to know every detail.

and the americans were of course right to dispose of his body in the sea, that way his dead and gone and stays dead and gone for sure…no pilgrimages to his grave and nothing…and should the yanks have him in a freezer somewhere, i wouldn’t have a problem with that either as long as they leave him there…

America knows how bad their world reputation is so claiming Bin Laden is dead is something they can hold the American flag to regain morale.

He's dead. When did he die is main question everyone wants to know since the rumours had been floating around for years that he was already dead.

9 years ago this would've meant something, not now. It's moreso closure for 9/11 than changing anything.

We should be seeing some kind of evidence to put everyone at ease but you can understand in the same light the possibility that Al Qaeda would react quite harshly to it.

+1 (Guantanamo Bay & other Homeland Security "disappearing" options aside)

I've posted elsewhere that it's a sad indictment of the U.S. that the only reason we believe them is because a violent deluded thug hasn't released a video contradicting them.

In a non-topsy-turvy world, we'd be doubting the video, wondering whether or not it was a lookalike.......but in the "Team America" era, it's the U.S. whose claims are in doubt due to their previous fictional claims re WMDs, Saddam=Bin Laden etc.

I believe he's dead, but it doesn't really matter. He wasn't the bogeyman that the US made him out to be, he had very little real power. I don't believe he was the mastermind behind 9/11, Bin Laden came out and said he wasn't behind them. After the attacks the US were scratching their head and looking for a scapegoat, Bin Laden fit perfectly. They've made him a martyr now and there'll be lots of guys queuing up to fill his shoes and blowing up stuff willy nilly to make a name for themselves.
