Sole Trader set-up/Contracting advice?

    Hi there,

I'm considering establishing myself as a sole trader while remaining in my current job; albeit preferably becoming part-time, and possibly contracting myself to my employer. (Has anyone done this - pros/cons?)

My proposed sole-trader business would be in the same general sphere as I work in at present (media) but with more diverse aspects to it which I'd like to pursue, and feel there are openings for.

With that in mind, would it be best to register a main (for the want of a better word) "holding" company name, and also register 1-2 subsidiary company names within that; or should I just keep it simple?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    BBTB

Keep it simple, just register as a sole trader as yourself.

Stay employed with your employer, it will let you keep your social welfare entitlements as you will still be paying your stamps(PRSI credits).
