Who is up for a protest march to the US embassy in Dublin this weekend to express our revulsion at the murder of Osama Bin Laden. It seems the land of the free has a long way to go if it can blur the distinction between execution and justice.

I admire your desire to be proactive about something that you're concerned about, and agree with the crux of your argument, but the general public will not and you won't help yourself or your interests, admirable as they may be. You'll end up being dragged through the mud like the public service. Ireland hates protest marches, and OBAMA is coming to save us all or something - people care about that.

Edit: posts above reveal public attitudes to your distaste for the handling of Bin Laden.

How about people do something constructive, and take their anger out at the cowboys in the banking sector and the Dail who have ruined the future of not only this generation but the next one?

Bin Laden my hole. Bertie and his ilk need to be double - tapped.

I don't work for the public service, it's just the obvious comparison of something that everyone hates having a protest march. So... you getting a dig in too? :pac:

Just saying people need to get their priorities in order about the issues that really affect us day to day. Sure, if people want to jump on trendy bandwagons, I'm not stopping them.

I wonder what people's reactions would have been if the Bush Administration had topped him? But its ok - its Obama, he is like, ohmygod soo cooool!

I'd rather go on an IRA hunger striker march.

There would be a tinge of disappointment that they didn't take out Dubya as well, whilst they were at it. Other than that, still no love lost.

How about we march to your house instead to protest at this idiotic, yet oh so predictable, twaddle.

Osama bin Laden declared war on America. America had no obligation to arrest him. The reaction of some people around these parts amazes me. If they had their way, America would politely have requested Asama's extradition, and when Pakistan either refused it, or more likely, facilitated his escape yet again, they'd expect America to just grin and bear it. Whilst Osama plots the death of further Irish, American, British, Jordanian, Indonesian civilians. The smug self-righteousness prevalent amongst sections of the Irish population, one that morphs so easily into anti-Americanism, really sickens me sometimes.

Except for being executed at Nuremberg first.

Anyway as for the OP. The only problem I have with Osama being killed at the compound is that he didn't get the chance to suffer the humility of a trial and being shown to the world dangling from the end of a rope like the cruel minded spawn of Satan that he was!

Do not mistake it for approval for Bin Laden. This is nothing of the sort. Instead, a protest at the hypocracy of people, who portray themselves as the good guys, yet believe that killing can be authorised because they believe it to be justified. That is no better than bin Laden himself.

Best to show up wearing name tags. Easier for the Americans to file your grievance that way.

Did you miss the whole part where OBL declared war on America? Seriously, what do you not understand about that? This wasn't some run of the mill police operation. Ths was a military operation against a self-declared enemy combatant.

Perhaps you could tell us Almaviva, how you would have dealt with the situation, had you been in Obama's shoes? How would you have brought about Osama's capture?

Why don't you label the march "Down with hypocritical people!" instead of basing it around the rightful (in my mind) killing of a murderous war criminal.

He declared war on the US, the US responded by shooting him in the head. All is fair.

they could have taking him alive instead. only one gun man was armed in the compound. sounds like they went in with a blood bath on their mind

I think it was all a stage show to cover up the murder of Gadaffis son and grandkids, but if they did get him they really should have taken him alive and tried him just to show they aren't as bad as the people they are fighting in "the war on terror".

The whole keeping him alive issue has been covered though.

You think that while Osama was sitting in a jail cell somewhere around the world his followers would be waiting anxiously on the outcome of his trial?

Somehow I don't think so,and anyway he would have been sentenced to death. See this way as a cost saving measure.
