I do not give a sh!t about all the people who died in Japan.

and so on.

I can not help how I feel about these things. My emotions respond the way they respond and that's it.

I care that there is suffering, but lets say, I'd care a lot more if it was closer to home. Strange maybe. Like I'd care a lot more about a murder in Ireland than a thousand abroad.

And I'd gladly take 25k dead Japansese if it meant the life of a loved one. I suppose that's the level or care I have. Empathy but not sadness.

I don't wish it. I just don't care about abstract people who may as well be characters on a computer game from an emotional and empathic perspective. If they died in front of me I would care.

I think there is a spectrum of sorts when it comes to the degree to which people care about somewhat abstract matters like deaths in foreign countries, or people you don't know being homeless. You are at one end, in that you claim to not care in the slightest. The people at the opposite end care a lot more than you, but I don't think they care as much about hundreds of deaths in Fukushima than they would about the death of a single close friend or relative here. From what I can see, feelings of empathy are based first on the presence or absence negative occurrence's direct proximity to our own lives, and all else is secondary.

Evil is what I'm thinking of doing to my new 'Team Leader' in work. If he keeps pissing me off, he's going to have a really bad day.
