Great tournament on a superb golf course with a fantastic field so deserves a thread.

Can Rory do what he did last year? What a final 2 days that was. It looks like he will be doing it the hard way again as he is 2 over thru 14

4 under is the current lead with my man Sergio on 3 under thru 11.

Paddy is 1 under thru 13 in what is a massive week for him as he is in danger of droping out of the world's top 50.

You just beat me to starting the post.

    Rory now +2.

Agree about Harrington. Nothing less than a top 10 finish here to stop the rot he is in (and that assuming he makes the cut!).

This is supposedly a ball strikers course so Sergio, Rory, Bubba etc should do well here, can't see it clicking for Paddy however he does seem to pull top tens out of nowhere, quite like when TW just clings onto the leaders in tournaments.

When will the Tiger be back in action? Next week for the Players?

Be nice for Harry to finshed a tournament strong or just even in the top 10.They reckon Tiger will miss that as well..

If Paddy makes the cut most of his fans will be happy and he should make this weekend. Nice round of 3 under par putting him 3 off the lead so far.

Rory looks like he wants to repeat the way he won last year after a 3 over par round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Paddy off to a nice start. 1 under thru 2 and now 4 under with 10 under Bill Haas leading.
Disaster start for Rory however, 2 over thru 3 on 5 over total with cut predicted to be level par.

Phil is in second on 9 under with Vijay another shot back on 8 under.

Eagle start from Sergio... 5 under :D

Paddy going very nicely now. 6 under thru 10. Form is temporary Class is permanent :D

Sergio hanging in there at 6 under aswell with Rory making a serious charge to make the cut. gone from 5 over back to 1 over in the space of 6 holes. cut at level still.

nice 7 over round from Dustin Johnson today. He had a 2,3,4,5,6,7 & 8 all on his scorecard :)

    Frustrating isn't??? :confused::confused:

Couple of gruesome looking drives cost Harrington bogeys, if he could even lessen the damage off the tee (i.e. rough rather than trees) the rest of his game seems in pretty good shape.

Lucas Glover rocking the beard and getting some form back...believe in the power of the beard

pity it didnt work for Tomas O'Leary tonight for Munster. Still brutal.

Anyway, Rory going to miss cut bar a miracle eagle 2 on 18.

Looks like Rory's heading home, 3 missed putts inside 5 feet on the back 9 have killed him. Putting is letting him down too often.

They showed a stat on his last 12 months on the coverage earlier. 13 Top 10s but 0 Wins in 26 events (and that doesn't even include his Masters showing). Remarkable consistency, but if he wants to win more, he's got to putt better inside 10 feet.

I just can't look at Harrington anymore. Every time I think "nice one Harry's gonna be in the mix here," the camera cuts to him wandering around in the pine needles scratching his head looking for his ball (on screen caption - Par 4....5th shot).

It's unbearable, ever since the 2009 Bridgestone invitational he hasn't been the same golfer. I believe that 16th hole at firestone is burned onto his brain!

Hopefully Bubba will have a lefty shoot-out with Phil in the final group on Sunday. That would be some spectacle!

Harrington & Kaymer out together today again. Kaymer is -3 for his round and -6 for the tournament. Harrington is -1 for his round and -4 for the tournament.

Leader Pat Perez tees of in an hour on -12.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 948 ✭✭✭SSK

Good round from PH today, -3 and -6 for the tournament. Only a couple of wild flakes off the tee which cost him just the one bogey. Most of his drives seemed to be fairways and rough just off the fairway. A couple of poor approaches cost him on the par 5s so it could have been a bit better.

Packed leaderboard now, very hard to call a winner...possibly Rickie Fowler to burst from the pack ala Rory last year.

Nice pairing with Mickelson today. A top 10 would look to be achievable from his position.

Rickie Fowler is not going to win a tournament this year. I've said this since the start of the year and I'm willing to back it up with odds if anyone wants them.

I backed Kevin Na @ 100-1 for this tournament (after timing here but my thoughts are always posted in advance on letsbet.ie) and backed Byrd @ 25-1 on Friday.

Byrd is a superb Iron player but I think he could be vulnerable to someone like Stewart Cink or Lucas Glover who could potentially score for fun today.

Perez is definitely better off going in to the final day a stroke behind rather than a stroke ahead. NA is another who could go for everything today and post a winnable score.

As for Harrington...well I fear the worst for him. I'd never back him for a tournament but always want him to do well.

What type of odds would you give on Fowler not getting a win? Hard to lay him if you ask me especially for the rest of the season I'm sure he will have a couple of opportunities ..

and what sort of odds are you expecting??????????
each week 156 or so pro's tee it up,all are capable of winning, not every course will suit Fowler,he's still young, last year he played 28 tourneys.
it's very easy to pick out a player and say they won't win one, what about picking out someone who will win one..........

it's hardly the boldest prediction i've heard of,i think he has a really good chance but will need a lot of luck so you won't get anybody stupid enough to part with cash unless the odds were pretty generous

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 948 ✭✭✭SSK

One thing that Byrd has in his favour is that he has scored well on the back 9 all week which should give him an edge over a lot of the others who have mainly done their scoring on the front 9.

Fowler is probably a bit far back today, but I would back him to win soon enough, maybe not this year but he is too good not to win soon.

Think Padraig & Phil will be a great pairing, both made outrageous pars on the first :D. Be good to watch that

You couldn't even see where Harrington's drive ended up on shottracker, it was so far left :D

    Birdies for both at 2

Ah yeah of course, but near the end of the year in the smaller tournaments he'll be 12-1, 16-1 favourite etc... It's a bold statement, but one I strongly think I'll be proven right on.

Paddy and Phil are on a serious charge up the leaderboard. Need to set a target score in clubhouse like 14 or 15 under and put the pressure on the less experienced players

T3 now after his 6th birdie in 14 holes.

Harrington in the water off the tee on 15. Off the green in 3 on the Par 5. Night night.

Great par on 15 by Padraig! Doubt he'll win it now, still a great round

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,429 ✭✭✭Mr. Larson

Sublime pitch from Padraig - looks like he will get it up and down for Par but needed to pick one up there you feel.

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

2nd on -12 but was never going to win (get near even?) with that many around the same number and with a bunch of holes yet to play.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 92 ✭✭Parky2010

bogey bogey finish for paddy but lot of positives to take out a that round and week, short game and putting look sharp again, roll on next week in regards to him :)

Should be a tight finish in the tourney too, fancy Glover

More Harrington weirdness going on now in relation to whether he played from in fron of the markers on a par 3... never a dull moment :)

Are people out to get him? 1st some guy on HD TV now a "vigilant" spectator!!!!!!!!!

Just back in after a few celebratory drinks. I hear Paddy was cheating :D

In all seriousness, why is it always him it comes down to  A very positive round ruined by some armchair viewer once again.

Hope he keeps up this golf for the weeks to come.

It seems utterly ridiculous to me. Two players, two caddies, officials and a lot of spectators around the tee all saw nothing wrong at the time. Surely it is the sort of thing that would be clear when you're standing there and not from a tv picture where you can't see the tee markers at all.

Also, this happened on the 13th tee. He finished his round over an hour later. How is it that someone waits until after the card has been signed before reporting the "offence"? Presumably in order to ensure the maximum penalty(DQ)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Great effort by Byrd there to save par.
    well done Lucas Glover.

Apparently it was a spectator at the tee rather than on TV. Nothing came of it in the end, the pictures were inconclusive at best it was tight and there was no way Phil, Ronan or Bones would have let him tee off and risk a penalty if he was ahead of the marker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86 ✭✭Dormy

    Harrington incident "inconclusive"
He says "for once I'm not going to be a martyr"
    End result... No penalty

Its time to let the players and referees decide the penalties.
Armchair viewers and spectators stick to watching!!

I think it should be like a wedding, "speak now or forever hold your peace". If a spectator thought he was in front of the tee, surely he should speak up there and then. Running to an official afterwards when nobody else saw anything wrong seems fairly pathetic to me.

Would think that his caddy should be more alert and if he was anyway close to be past the line then the caddy should have said something
