Mine would have to be Midnight Express. Fantastic movie. Followed in second by Life with Eddie Murphy.

+1 for life eddie steals every scene he's in. its one Of the most underated comedy/dramas ever IMO. I also enjoyed the daddy of all prison films the shawshank redemption and escape from Alcatraz was a decent enuf film

Shawshank and The Green Mile probably, although I couldn't sit through either of them again at this stage. Life was a great film actually. I haven't watched it in years.

An innocent man with Tom Selleck is excellent, a good cast and story.

A Prophet was the best prison movie of the past ten years or so I think.

The Shawshank Redemption is a very good movie but I still think it's overated. A few too many cliches in it for my liking. I think ever since watching Midnight Express The Shawshank Redemption seems a bit " hollywoody" to me.

What I didnt like about Midnight Express was that it made me feel sorry for the "Hero", who was, quite clearly, trying to smuggle a very large amount of hash. Personally, I'd have to go for Cool Hand Luke. Used to watch it regularly as a child with my dad, and I still sit through it enthralled, despite knowing every ssingle word. Paul Newman owns the screen throughout.

Papillion. It's a sizeable movie that you really can get into completely. Dustin Hoffman is amazing in it and it doen't seem like 'acting.' I get totally immersed in the film.

Steve Mc.Queen in Papillon. An outstanding performance. Huge sprawling movie. Fantastically done. Midnight Express would be a close second for me.

He was hardly meant to be a hero. It was just a movie based on a true story. I don't think they tried to portray him as a hero.

Also, if anythhing contradicts his supposed heroism it would be the fact that he spat out some guy's eye.

I meant hero as in the story's hero, or protagonist. Not a role model. I did use quotation marks.
