I'm sure it'll be high class athletics but I just can't get interested without a few British and/or Irish athletes to get behind. I just don't want to see Russians and Americans shot-putting or East Africans running middle distance against each other. My loss I suppose.

I was thinking the same thing, the east African middle distance league

I can understand where you coming from I think that most fans generally find it hard to identify with the east Africans etc as people who pop up for few years and then someone else comes through however i think this year there may be a few interesting athletes to get behind:

Chris Solinsky has been one to watch. Last years break through in the 10k coupled with some faster short distance races so far this year (3.35 1500m recently) shows that even in a tactical race he wont be left behind could compete in a few of the DL races this year

Jelimo and Semenya could be another interesting match up. Both are on the come back trail this years showing early season promise could make things interesting

Mo Farah (if you are looking for GB interest) his switch to the Oregon Project could see him run some quick times this season

While Doha doesnt have too many non africans in the mix i think many of the other races could spark a bit of interest

    (Remaining hopeful)

Also on the BBC Sport website too for those of you (like me) who don't have the Red Button. Although I think you need to be in the UK to view it on the BBC Sport website but a UK proxy will let you get around that :)

Lolo Jones for me. Hard to believe she is single and can't seem to meet someone. I guess that's because she hasn't bumped into the G-Money

Way ahead of you on that score :)

Tyson Gay is very good at responding to his followers, he's responded to a lot of my tweets which is pretty cool.

There is a new Ethiopian guy Yenew Alamirew that the Steve Cram was bigging up a lot. He's 21 next month and won the 3000 metres in 7.27.

Not the only one to rate him highly alot of people touting him as new distance star. Ran a 7.28 late season last year to beat Silas Kiplagat and again ran 7.27 indoors earlier this year. Will be interested to see how he fairs over 5000m as his only race last year before his major break through was 13.16

Yeah I have to admit I'm still new to the athletics scene so I don't have a great knowledge of everyone yet but it's good to see the new talent coming through.

It was insane, one of those races at the Doha meet had something like 7 Kenyans and one other non Africa nationality I think. The 3000 metres race looked like an Iten training run there were so many of them :)
