well people i need a few peoples view as the title says, hope this is the right section to be posting sorry Mods if not please remove!

Im 18 years of age and currently studying a 1 year Business course a PLC course, the thing is exams are very soon and im not feeling confident about passing them so i have a few questions to be asked.

whats peoples views on emmigrating and coming back as a mature student at 23 years of age at least then i would be more mature and have a better focus on studies thats my opinion anyway?

do people think its silly emmigrating to America with no qualifications what so ever am i just wasting my time? I plan ongoing over September 2012 so i have plenty of time to save and have a budget to fall back on!

    Thanks Mousey.

you think youre gonna fail your first year exams so youre gonna emigrate? I see no flaws in your logic there, go for it.

You don't need qualifications to work as a waiter or a barman & the tips are really good.

Going anywhere without a qualification pretty much limits your job prospects. Doesn't matter where you go (states, europe or even at home).

That's not to say you can't study and work at the same time, many people have, but that could be a harder option in another country.

The thing is im not jumping ship just because i have failed 1 exam i have 9 exams and can only fail 1 with no repeats available so if i did fail would I be mad to think that i would be able to go away and then come back in 4 years and complete my studies?

A friend is also going over with the same view as coming back to study as a mature student aswel, so rent wouldnt be as hard splitting it 50/50

    thanks.

i dropped out of college at 19, got a job and eventually 'emigrated' to the states on my own (albiet with a visa)

i came back eventually and got a lucky break in an IT company and have a decent job now without a degree, i was lucky though

if you emigrate to the states with no qualifications (without a visa) at 18 or 19 you will have to come back some time and will regret it... you wont be able to travel back to the states again if you overstay and who knows, down the line you may get the opportunity to travel there with a job or whatever but be unable to.. its not worth the risk

running away from study now and expecting to have a matrue clear viewpoint when youre 23 wont happen, youll find yourself working some unskilled job and getting back into education will seem like a pain in the arse, if you do have the motivation to do it youll find yourself broke after having a taste of getting a paycheck and it will be even harder

best thing you can do during these times or recession is to continue with your study, get the head down and suffer the pain of having to work your bollocks off for a couple of years. get a qualification, even if its just some cert.. its something and can be used as a base to further your career when the time comes, years fly by as you get older and youll be 23 before you know it... use your time now wisely and youll reap the benfits in a couple of years

    trust me.

It's very common in Scandinavian countries to work until you're in your mid 20's and then decide which college course you would like to do. So it's possible, but includes many years of working crap jobs.

I would say America is a bad choice as it's hard to get a visa for there. Somewhere that will give you an opportunity to learn a new language would be of great benefit to your future plans.

It's probably easier in the long run, as has been said, to get your qualification and then travel. It's very hard to get a job anywhere with no qualifications.
