Idea's ,Opinions on Golf GT TDI

Im just after buying a golf gt tdi.Got a very good deal.Im thinking of doing a few bits to it so just looking for opinions and so on

I thinking of putting an R32 Front on it.I dont think the R32 skirts make a huge difference to the side.I was thinking of doing the R32 back bumper too but looking at it online I wonder is it worth it as it also appears to be no major change.Im hoping to put the centre twin head exhaust on the back so I dunno would it look as good without the back bumper.Car currently as 18" BBS alloys.

I was thinking of putting a diesel dump valve on it but from looking on the net and various Forums it looks like people think they make the car cheap sounding.

I will be remapping it in time but I want to get use to it first before i go down that road.Ive gone from a 1.4 rolla to a 150bhp golf so you can imagine the power dofference takes getting use to.

I dont like the Anniversity kit so thats probably out of the question.

does any1 know some1 that does custiom centre twin exhausts or if the car was yours what would you do with it

    thanks in advance

Definitely do NOT put on a diesel dump valve anyway, they sound sh*t. Have you any pics of the car in question?? Not a fan of Golfs myself but there should be plenty of VeeDub heads on here to help guide you.

maybe just add coilovers, it would look good slammed on some BBS LM's or similar wheels. personally i wouldn't try and make it something its not with the R kit. just appreciate it for what it is, keep it clean and tidy and it will look far better than half those excuses for golfs on the roads lately.

im confused is it a mk4 or mk5 ? i originally thought mk4 but then you mention R32 rear and centre exhausts so i thought mk5 but then you said it was a 150bhp so i presume it is a mk4

There is a HUGE difference between a standard mk4 and one with a kit,the front and rear bumpers are totally different, also the mk4 R32 skirts are very deep and make a massive difference. If you do go with an R32 kit then dont go for a fibreglass one and dont fit badges lol

Also still presuming it is a mk4 then you are going to have to get a custom back box or a miltekk R32 style back box to be able to have twin exhaust tips.

its a mark 4.I wasnt 2 sure as the pic I saw the skirts didnt seem to make ahuge difference but I have known to be wrong.I know the mark 4 R32 comes with twin exhausts but i was thinking of a centre exhause.I know a guy in meath sells the front bumper for 160,skirts 95 and i think back is 150.Thats plastic i think. Is that carp?

I wasnt planning on sticking the R32 badge on as i think it would be strange

Seems very cheap for genuine R bumpers too cheap, genuine ones will be ABS plastic reps will be fiberglass and wont even fit right. To be honest if you are going down the Kit route then either go genuine or save your money and spend it on other things,to really make the kit work you are going to have to lower it also as a gold with R32 kit at standard height will look silly.

In my opinion a centre exhaust would look naff on a mk4,not even craxy about it on a mk5,but if done right it could work - again you are looking at a custom rear bumper, custom rear box and someone who can put it all together well. Not trying to burst your bubble but just giving you a feel of what you are up against.

You could spend a lot less money and make the car look very nice in other ways i.e de badge it,rear V6 valance and a twin tail pipe back box(if it is a real 150 it should have the front one already),you say it has 18" BBS already what style are the? are the genuine? do this and then lower it and it will look class without breaking the bank.

I have not done anything to my car aesthetically, just some suspension upgrades.

1st I would advise to install Audi TT Lower Control Arm Bushings (LCA). These will make a noticible difference with respect to steering responce. Relativly cheap mod.
(Additionally you can fit Cupra R or Fabia VRS rear axil bushings, again better steering responce. However I would not know first hand).

    2nd, I'd advise against slamming it...an inch (~25mm) MAX...
On my wagon I have Koni STR-T shocks all round. Additionally Koni sport lowering spring (25mm drop) in the back and stock fronts. The Koni spring has higher spring rate, so the spring rate ratio front/rear is smaller. I found this reduces understeer (however this could be subjective). It also rolls less without having to install the rARB. Also i heard that the additional perk of having the rear sit lower with respect to the front is that the CG over the rear axil sits nearer the the level of CG over the front axil. More balanced I guess.

3rd. 35 PSI in the front 25-30 PSI rear.

My Golf aint pretty, but I really enjoy driving it on the back roads...

Thanks for the advice Lads.Ive started toi shop around and get prices and them Im going to way up whether or not its worth the cash.I had a g6 corolla and im glad i did bits to it as it made it my own.But with golfs i know their a bit more sporty looking.Ive heard a few bad things about lowering the VW's too much so thats defo something which I will look into before deciding on what to do.I dont want the car to look cheap.I want it to look nice.

Nice wagon you have there lots of potential! a bit of colour coding would make a massive difference.

I would add though you can go alot lower than you recommend and not compromise the driving characteristics in face if done right you will improve them.

Yep, just need to get it together, wait for a dry day and go at it with some masking tape, primer and a bit of tornado red. Fuel and air filters first thought.
:D New tyres going on today!
Tossy do you know if the door valances are glued on or clipped onto the doors?

There seems to be a lot of different opinions on forums with regards to lowering a mkiv. Generally ranging from "lowering is the work of Satan" to "slam the sh*t out of that bad boy" and everything in between.

I'd like to think I'm somewhere in the middle.

I've read that Audi TT spindles are beneficial with regard to getting better suspension geometry when lowering. But again, no first hand experience, so here is a pinch of salt ;).

I am nearly 100% the side trims are held on with clips although i have never taken them off.

My old Bora was considerably lower than yours and i never had any hassle or regrets, the centre section of the exhaust would catch on any kind of ramp but that never bothered me one bit.
