Good Cheap Monitor?

I'm looking to buy a monitor as my laptop screen is extremely dodgy for editing as I can't seem to calibrate it in any way, shape, or form. It seems to just dip in and out of contrast and brightness settings whenever it likes, and it's hard to judge the angle I need the screen at.

So I've decided to get a monitor. Realistically I'd like it to be as cheap as possible, hdmi is preferred to VGA for other purposes, and yeah I guess that's it.

    Any suggestions?

Good and cheap don't really go hand in hand too often.

If you are wanting it for editing then get the best that you can afford and some sort of screen calibration software. I heard that Dell Ultra Sharp screens are decent.
