Best Teams in Europe

Bit of a random question for ya,

United vs. Barca, champions league final, two best teams in Europe.

I think I'd confidently say that is the case.

But if you were to go further down, I think Chelsea are the third best team in Europe myself. Madrid fourth.

    What would other people think?

    Porto*

*By this seasons performances, where they have been unbelievable. Imo they would have made it to the SF of the CL if they were in it this year.

Id probably agree with that. I would say that 2-5 are all fairly close at the moment but Barca are a level above them.

A shame Dortmund and Porto weren't in the CL this year, I'd like to see how they do against very top tier opposition. Been very impressed with them from what I've seen.

Out of curiosity, if Utd beat Barca, would you think they were automatically the better side?

Arsenal have beaten Utd, Chelsea and Barca this year and yet I wouldn't say they're a better side than any one of those.

Cant really comment on Dortmund myself, but agree about Porto they look a savage team and would easily have been tough test for even United or Barca.

I think that any team that beats another team over two legs, fairly comprehensively, is a better team.

You clearly got me. Head to head in those two games, United came out slightly on top. It doesn't really mean anything other than that.

Both sides are of the highest quality, reflected in the fact that I rate one 2nd and the other 4th best in Europe, but I feel that Chelsea being that big stronger in the centre of midfield gives them the advantage overall.

We won't know this season but I believe that United will have major trouble coping with Barcelona whereas I believe that Chelsea would actually have half a chance of beating them.

In terms of what is going on in the league. Chelsea for large chunks of this season were by far the strongest team in the league but managed to fall apart for a few months - for what seems to be off the pitch issues. United have been consistently very good throughout the season but at the start of this season, or a few weeks/months in, there weren't many United fans thought there had a hope in hell of winning the league - nevermind the double.

I would agree with this. Chelsea/Utd/Madrid could all beat each other on any given day. Barcelona ahead of the pack. Arsenal are too soft if they were to get in a few big players who could play football like they had with the invincibles then they could contest with teams 2-4 but at the moment I think they are slightly behind. When Wilshire+Ramsey mature they will definitely be a force to be reckoned with over the course of a season. Injuries usually plague them as they have a few glass men like rvp.

And Chelsea beat United 2-1 before that so whats your point? United in good form beat Chelsea in poor form, big surprise there! On that merit Arsenal are better than United because they beat them at the weekend. Pssshhhhht.

Both United and Barca have outscored Arsenal in aggregate in tall games.

I love how we're getting told we're biased if we make any complaint against Barca. But now suddenly Madrid are better than the likely EPL Champs, 3 out of 4 times european finalists, and Barca's (by pep's own admission) biggest european rivals.

But a mere 24 hours later Madrid have gone from a bunch of Cowboys, to better than European finalists. The bias is actually grotesque, boys.

This, That Dortmund team is class, Klopps a great manger too. If they can keep the team together they'll give the European Cup a great go next season.

lol. So luckboxing an easy Champions league draw is now a skill? Not to mention I don't see how united reaching a final 3 years ago has any merit on how good a team is this year.

If Barca lose the final, then it will definitely put a different spin on the last 5 years of European football IMO.

I don't think that Barca will lose, but if Utd claim a second European Cup, it'll be pretty hard to say that they are not the dominant team of the past few years.

Chelsea is far from easy, especially when you're United! Can only beat the teams in front of ya, end of the day, if we beat Inter nobody would have told us we lucked into the easy draws, but Inter weren't good enough to even get near the side we just battered.

    Barca/United (TBD on the 28th)
    Real Madrid
    Chelsea
    Arsenal

On current form you could also include porto, dortmund and even liverpool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,299 ✭✭✭spiralism

    Anyways:
Currently 1+2 is balanced between Utd and Barcelona, with this year's final tipping the balance one way or another
    then Chelsea
    Madrid
Porto (Villas-Boas is an absolute mastermind)

    In Europe?

And even if they do, no

Games played against each other this season 4
    United wins 3
    Chelsea wins 1

Dortmund no way. They were too light for the Europa League even. When it comes to the nitty gritty European stuff you have to have been there done that.
And I'd have Bayern ahead of Arsenal anyway, if anything better even. They got complacent in the second leg v Inter. Too much ramblings with van Gaal sharpness went missing. But realistically they're a CL semi final side.

But admittedly I'd be biased of course.

    Barca
    Man United
    Chelsea

Thats the top four no doubt in my book and in that order too. I'm finding it hard to call who is fifth, a few teams in contention.

    Manchester United
    Chelsea

Barca and Utd without questions are the best clubs in Europe at the moment their records over the last five years speaks for themselves.
Barca (esp since Guardiola took them over) are the best team in Europe, but the best doesn't team win every game. Utd can definitely beat them, either way looking forward to a very good game. :D

I've got to disagree with you there mate.

They've only got themselves to blame IMO and AC Milan are extremely lucky that they weren't relegated to Serie B at the same time as Juventus.

Don't place too much stock on this type of exercise, it's all relative. One team's system will beat some teams easily and struggle against others. United for example clearly struggle against teams who play possession football, but if they have any vulnerability to the counter United will shine.

For what it's worth though, Arsenal are the only team to beat Barca in the CL this season over 90 mins, so clearly they are the best of the rest :pac:

    1. Barca (Best team in the world by some margin )

    2. Real Madrid

    3. Chelsea (I think they are actually better than ManU despite league position - they had an awful Nov/Dec and yet still have outside chance of winning the league).

    4. ManUnited

    5. ManCity

fair enough, I misread the first post.

Put overall, United have played Chelsea 4 times this year

Twice in Europe, once in the league and once in the Charity Shield

United one three games, lost one.

I don't see how people are struggling to separate United and Chelsea for 2nd,I would have thought 3 champions league finals in 4 years clearly puts united ahead if you're looking for the better team in Europe.
