What good/nostalgic memories do you have of holidays/festivals?

I know it's completely wrong but I once went back twice to the weird angry woman with cats in our area on Hallowe'en. Everyone, in the area, was doling out about five monkeynuts to each child. There was an army of kids in my area. She didn't like kids. She once cut our football in two (after it broke her flowers) and threw it back out onto the green. She then became a witch.

I went to her house on Hallowe'en, as a dare. She gave me 10p, a huge amount of money at the time. I always remember this. I told the other kids that she threatened to put a curse on me. I wasn't having them know.

    I still think about her.

So AHers, anyone else got any stories about people that came to light at a festival/holiday time?

No wonder you became the power-hungry leader of an empire. All you needed was a hug.

    Hug?

Was fecking deadly, but it was the first year of Feile TV, and there we were, and the screens all went black. We thought it was fubared. Next minute in but white writing it said
    PEIG SAYERS

    Everyone started booing...

    then it said

    What a B1tch!

The cheering was deafening. Class moment, the whole of Semple Stadium
brought together in hatred of Peig!!!

Thunder and lighting on Christmas Eve. My parents were scared a tree would fall on my room so little me had to sleep in my big brother's room and kept him awake all night with "Do you think Santa's here yet? Shush shush or he won't come. I'm gonna sleep now...I'M TOO EXCITED TO SLEEP!!". He was ready to kill me by the next morning.

We then opened our presents by candle light as the electricity was gone.

    My birthday is on Halloween.

The best birthday you could hope to have. As a kid it felt like the mayhem was all for me, it still does...

summertime at the beach and spending all our time and money pumping 20p pieces into arcade games instead of out in the sun. 80's arcades rules, danky, smoke filled places with games like Double Dragon and Kung Fu Master and Donkey Kong, run by some wierd looking carnie guy with dodgy tattoos and a fag hanging out of his mout manning the change counter.
