    Hi folks,
I'll be living in apartment short-term this summer, hence not willing to get a 12 month UPC/Sky package and would be happy with Saorview for the few months (going to by a new TV for the apartment anyhow so will make sure Saorview will work OK)

Question is -Do I need LOS to the broadcasting antenna?
The apartment is 4.2km away from the antenna and there's a building in the way.

    Cheers for any advise

Brilliant, thanks for the info. My intention was to mount an aerial outdoors on the balcony pointing in the direction of the broadcasting antenna

It depends on what strength the broadcasting site transmits Saorview at. If there's a building in the way then it would be a good idea to have a southerly-facing window in whatever apartment you hope to get.

I was able to get by in Dublin city centre on the wrong side of an apartment block with just an indoor aerial, but it had to be facing eastwards out a window. Even though the building was still in the way, it worked much better at that window.

Line of site doesn't matter that much (in general, mind) but a window will be better than a brick wall!

i can see kippure in the winter but there are trees in the way in summer would this affect signal? I know it sounds stupid but need to be certain before I get rid of upc and dont want aerial outside

    Nope wont make any difference.

try it first before you get rid of upc.
