Hi i run my own business and I need to hire someone as work load is getting to much. I cant afford to pay someone a full wage so i looked into the Fas work placement programme but it seems i have to be already employing someone to be eligible to apply. Does anyone know of any other programmes that would suit my needs. I am a sole trader and VAT registered if that makes any difference. Thanks

Could you offer an internship? Lots of students finishing college shortly who wouldn't be eligible for dole and want 'real world' experience, you might be able to work out a mutually beneficial agreement.

ETA - depending on your business type you may be eligible to apply to your CEB for an employment grant which could get you over initial costs of taking someone on?

OP wait till next Tuesday, there might be an annoucement in the governments job initiative that could help you out. The idea of a National Graduate Internship Program whereby the employer pays a graduate €150 per week and they also keep their social welfare payments was mooted last November. It may or may not come to fruition next Tuesday.
