As I was watching the News a thought occured to me, is it about time we purchased two or three "Water Bombers"? They are widely used in fighting fires in the likes of Spain and France and America, they scoop up water then carry it and essentially bomb it onto the Fire, I was thinking this may be good due to the fact the Fire service are up to their eyeballs and it would be quicker and far more effective instead of hauling gear/hoses up hills,

So what say you The Great Irish Public.

Also Before you say no, would you not consider it a good option to have it and not use it much rather than need it and not have it?

Don't wanna come across all pagan, but we could try herding FF men, their voters, the bankers and the priests into the flames, it might appease the angry gods.

And if that doesn't work sure, yeah, water bombers sound cool.

    Ah sure, it'll rain eventually.

They are using army choppers to do pretty much the same thing so i don't see the point in spending massive amounts of money on something that would hardly be used

there are defence force helis dowsing them are there not?
No point buying specific stuff that'll remain unused 99% of the time when we have available machinery that can be altered quickly to do the job

Why not just hire stuff for the duration of the fire? I think it would be madness to buy them.

People generally rent them. While I have feeling for the people of Donegal I couldn't care less about the people of offaly.

They are but these Aircraft would be a great asset and could be Operated by the IAC.

    Bambi Bucket ( AW139 ): 1,200L
    Water Bomber ( CL-215 ): 5,300L

The CL-215 can and has delivered 75-125 loads of water in a single day in support of fire fighting efforts.

If we could use them to "grit bomb" icy roads during the winter aswell...then yes.

    But we've no grit.

This seems to be the right thread to suggest blasting the gorse fires with piss.

Start prosecuting the farmers who start them. I'm sure there are a couple started by twats but the majority are by the farmers themselves who try to burn off the gorse and things get out of control.

How often do we get serious wildfires though? Would rather they invested in keeping airports open and roads passable during snow and ice but even then they might not get used as much meaning people will say they were a waste of money, the last few winters have just been unusually cold.

In saying that if my house was being threatened by gorse fires, I'd want they whole army out with buckets!

Thankfully there's a ignore function on boards. It's in the drop down section on your sig. I'm putting you on my ignore list, I suggest you do likewise. That way I don't have to read any of your rants ever again.
